Year 3 students welcomed families into their classroom to share and celebrate their learning.

Through hands-on activities, classroom displays and meaningful conversations, families experienced the learning journey alongside their children, seeing firsthand the confidence, creativity and curiosity developing in the classroom.

As we mark 140 years of excellence in girls’ education, these moments highlight the strong partnership with families and the foundations being built for future learning at MLC School.

A portrait of actor Gemma Chua-Tran , daughter of MLC School Old Girl Ai-keen (Class of 1990) has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Archibald Prize, currently on exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Painted by Sydney artist Camille Olsen-Ormandy, the portrait presents a more understated perspective of Gemma, capturing her in her mother’s MLC School uniform, a thoughtful nod to identity, family and connection across generations.

The work explores themes of character and self-representation, offering a striking contrast to the bold public persona audiences may recognise.

As we celebrate 140 years of excellence in girls’ education, it is wonderful to see the MLC School story reflected in such a significant cultural moment.

Meena (Year 11) represented the School at the Grand Final of the Dame Enid Lyons Oratory Competition at NSW Parliament House, a prestigious event bringing together students from girls’ schools across NSW.

Progressing from a field of 30 competitors to the final top 10, Meena took on the challenge of impromptu speaking, preparing and delivering an eight-minute speech with just 15 minutes’ notice. Her thoughtful and compelling speech explored the complexities of using AI to replicate deceased loved ones as a way to navigate grief.

Meena demonstrated resilience, composure and a high level of speaking skill, representing MLC School with confidence and integrity.

Opportunities like this reflect 140 years of excellence in girls’ education, empowering students to find their voice and engage with meaningful ideas.

Congratulations, Meena!

From concept to creation, MLC School students are exploring ideas, experimenting with materials and developing their own artistic voice across both Art and Textiles. Their work reflects not only technical skill, but curiosity, individuality and a strong sense of expression.

We look forward to showcasing this creativity at Illuminate this Thursday, an evening celebrating student work and the vibrant culture of the creative arts at MLC School.

Continuing 140 years of excellence in girls’ education, programs like these encourage students to think boldly, create confidently and share their stories.

Join us as we celebrate the talent of the students.

It has been a busy and successful period across MLC School Sport, with strong results in Football, Swimming and Gymnastics.

The Senior First Football team has advanced to the CIS Cup Plate Final following a 3–1 semi‑final victory. After a season of steady progress and commitment, the team will now aim for back‑to‑back titles at Valentine Sports Park on 24 June. We wish the team and Head Coach Mr Burgess all the very best for the final.

At a Junior School level, Riley and Vaani (Year 6) represented MLC School at the IPSHA Football Trials, approaching the opportunity with enthusiasm and a strong willingness to learn.

In Swimming, Madison (Year 11) competed this week at the prestigious 2026 Australian Swimming Trials held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, after qualifying in both the Women's 50m Backstroke and Women's 50m Butterfly events. Competing on the national stage was an invaluable experience for Madison, who had the opportunity to warm up and race alongside some of Australia's current, former, and future Olympic swimmers.

MLC School Gymnastics team also competed at the Country Capital Cup, demonstrating strong team culture across the three days, supporting one another, celebrating successes and representing MLC School with pride.

Congratulations to all students, and thank you to our coaches and families for their continued support.
