Deakin Distinguished Professor and Chair in Marine Science Graeme Hays has been recognised by the Australian Academy of Science for contributing to the best published research work of 2025, a huge honour that highlights the global impact of Australian science.

The work, part of an international collaboration, is helping us better understand how animals move across our planet and what that means in a changing climate. It’s the kind of research that doesn’t just sit in journals, but shapes how we respond to real-world environmental challenges.

We're proud to see world-leading work coming out of Deakin and contributing to global conversations around sustainability, climate, and conservation.

Congratulations to the Deakin Rover Team! 🎉

The team recently competed in the Australian Rover Challenge (ARCh) 2026 in Adelaide, finishing an impressive 13th out of 30 teams and taking home the 'Best Team Culture' award.

Leading up to the competition, it was all hands on deck. Late nights, last-minute fixes, and intense problem-solving to get their rover 'Borealis' ready in time.

In just their second year, this result is a testament to the team’s innovation, teamwork and dedication.

We’re proud to see our students representing Deakin on a national stage, and can’t wait to see what they achieve next.

Well done to everyone involved!
