Children at our school learn math in a fun way!

In this video, one of our students from Children's House is learning about "tens" using the Ten Golden Beads, placing them alongside the Seguin Board.

With the Seguin Board, children can explore numbers, quantitities, and patterns in a way they can actually experience.
They can see it, touch it, and work it out themselves.
What might seem like an abstract math concept, suddenly becomes something real and easy to understand.

And that's what makes learning math in a Montessori school so unique!

Recently, our lower primary students listened to The Third Great Story, The Coming of Humans. This story helps students understand what makes us human and how human intelligence, creativity and communication have shaped civilisation over time. Following the story, students engaged in a cave-painting activity, exploring how early humans used images and symbols to communicate, record important messages and experiences.

Students also discussed the tools, materials and inventions used by humans in the past and compared them with those we use today. They explored how early humans used natural materials to make tools, build shelters and meet their everyday needs.

The Coming of Humans is the third of the Five Great Stories in Montessori education. Through these stories, children are introduced to a big picture understanding of the world and their place within it.

Students in Yaakin worked in small groups to design and create ideas using recycled materials. Their projects included a dog park, bug hotel, electric plane, gold-making machine, soap and water filtration system and community playgrounds.

Students researched their ideas and considered how their designs could be more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Along the way, they developed their creativity and worked together to solve problems.

Finally, students presented their designs to the class, explaining what they had created, how they developed their ideas and what made their designs sustainable. It was wonderful to see them confidently sharing their work and explaining the thinking behind their designs.

Our Children’s House students have been exploring the fascinating layers of the ocean – from the bright Sunlight Zone all the way down to the mysterious depths of the Trench Zone.

Along the way, they discovered the creatures that inhabit each layer and explored how marine life has adapted to survive deep beneath the ocean, where sunlight can no longer reach.

The children then brought their learning to life by creating their own ocean dioramas – drawing, painting and carefully placing each sea creature in its correct ocean zone.

In this video, two of our students proudly share their creations and explain the thinking behind their work.

This is Montessori learning in action: children building knowledge through exploration, creativity and hands-on work, then developing the confidence to share what they have learned with others.

Inspired by the theme for Book Week 2026, Symphony of Stories, our students were invited to create artwork inspired by the magic of books.

One student imagined a book that, when opened, comes alive with music... and other books bursting out from its pages!

What a beautiful reminder of the incredible imagination and creativity of children.
When we give children the freedom to dream, imagine and express their ideas, the possibilities are endless.

We love seeing where their imaginations take them!

At Perth Montessori, learning is not simply about completing tasks or preparing for the next test.

It is about developing concentration, independence, curiosity and a genuine love of learning.

In our classrooms, students are given time to explore ideas deeply, work with purpose and take increasing responsibility for their own learning. They are known by their teachers, supported within a close community and encouraged to grow at a pace that is both challenging and respectful of their development.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more about what Montessori education looks like in practice — from mixed-age classrooms and uninterrupted work cycles to the carefully prepared environments and materials that support each stage of development.

We look forward to taking you inside the philosophy, practice and everyday moments that make Perth Montessori such a special place to learn.

This activity introduces the concept of weight through hands-on learning with the Baric Tablets.

The Guide works alongside the student as she explores, compares, and identifies the tablets by their weight.

Once familiar with the activity, she can continue exploring the Baric Tablets independently or with a classmate, making learning about weight more fun!

Music class! 🎶

Kardan students have been playing a game called 'pass the beat'.

Students chant as a group, saying each word on the beat, keeping accurate timing. They have been practicing over the past weeks and have improved greatly, and now take turns to accompany on the drum kit.

Maintaining a steady beat within a group is a crucial skill for playing with others as part of an ensemble, as well as playing any instrument.
