I so thought things were moving forward. Nearly 27 years in Early Childhood and if I was at a Government School I would be valued for my experience and knowledge but the Government sees me as a lesser teacher. So proud of what I do and I know that the most important people, the children and families as well as my Committee and Staff value my efforts. I can only hope one day the Government that funds our vital service does. Rural children from small country towns derserve the same access to Quality Preschool Education provided by High Quality teaching staff which continues to get harder to achieve without Fair Pay

The NSW government must stop stalling and reveal how it will boost funding for fair pay in community preschools.

More than 170 IEU members passed a motion on 6 August calling on the NSW government to implement the Fair Work Commission’s recommendation that it increase funding for community preschools.

This would support pay rises for teachers and educators who are paid substantially less than their counterparts in primary schools.

It’s time for the NSW government to provide more funding for fair pay so our members can continue to offer safe, high-quality education.

Directly from the NSW Legislative Council Report published in May into Early Childhood Education and Care Sector in NSW Recommendation 10 states:
"That the NSW Government work with the Independent Education Union of Australia, Community Early Learning Australia and United Workers Union to address workforce attraction and retention challenges by fully funding community preschools and enabling teachers and educators to be provided with fair pay and conditions." Yet the Budget does not do it so why bother to have as a recommendation!!! The report also clearly outlines the findings that Not For Profit services are safer services and recommends to increase percentage of Not For Profit services in the sector as compared to profit ones!!! We thought we were getting somewhere but still undervalued and underpaid but celebrated for being the safe and best services.

Disappointment and frustration at the Minns government's lack of support for community preschools. Not good enough from NSW Labor 😡

Its Pink Day and we are doing Pink Week at Burrumbuttock Preschool to support the Campaign to fight for better wages. We stand with all Community Based Preschools and Start Strong, Pay Fair and Independent Education Union of Australia NSW / ACT Branch in calling for the NSW Government to listen to the Fairwork Commissions recommendations regarding the great divide between what teachers are paid at schools as compared to Preschools when we have the same qualifications, teacher registration requirements and do the same job of teaching. Please also be fully aware that many Early Childhood teachers in Preschools are also the Nominated Supervisor and in small Preschools the Educational Leader. This means that we have 3 roles, not just as a teacher and are really the performing the role of a Principal plus yet we can not even get paid the same as a teacher!!!
