Nina's Piano Lessons Piano lessons provided by Nina Hardie. From beginners to advanced. Nina's Piano Lessons first began in 2011 in Launceston, Tasmania.

Nina learnt the piano from a young age and has studied her A.Mus.A diploma with Ms June Missen in Mildura. Nina has also completed 6th Grade Theory. Whilst in Mildura, Nina was awarded the Fran Gallagher Memorial Award in 2000 and 2001 for her piano performances at the Mildura Eisteddfod. Nina attended the University of Melbourne to study a Bachelor of Music, and is now studying to become a school

teacher specializing in music. Nina has been teaching piano for 15 years to a range of students from beginner to advanced, young to mature age.

Richard Dreyfuss, Jack Black, Julie Andrews and other Hollywood A-listers have played on-screen roles as music teachers. They’re dedicated, charismatic, and in the case of J.K. Simmons from Whiplash, intimidating.

But on-screen portrayals of teachers are not that realistic, according to Hugh Gundlach from the University of Melbourne.

Dr Gundlach and his colleagues have just published a paper which analyses more than 50 school music teachers in films released between 1940 and 2025.

They say those films have some problems. Not only do they help shape our perception of actual music teachers, they might also influence how many people consider taking up the profession.

Films can “create a ‘cultural reality’ that is more powerful than the actual reality,” Dr Gundlach says.
