Community Vigil – Honouring Kumanjayi Little One 💗✨

To our Bundaberg community 🩷💜

We respectfully invite you to join us in a Community Vigil for Kumanjayi, as we come together to honour her Jukurrpa - Her dreaming & the spirit of our Little One during this time of Sorry Business.

We gather with heavy hearts on the lands of the Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Bailai peoples, to acknowledge this profound loss. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to the Warlpiri family and community in Alice Springs who are grieving.

This will be a safe and respectful space for community to come together in love, kindness, and unity. We will hold space for grief, share in remembrance, and stand strong together. All community members are welcome.

We ask that attendees be mindful that this is a time of mourning. There will be no judgement and no division — only respect, compassion, and community. We invite you to bring a candle or flowers as we honour the Little One’s spirit, and send our love & strength from Bundaberg and show support from Central Queensland to the family and community in the Northern Territory.

Today we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible work happening at the Coastal Marine Ecosystem Research Centre (CMERC) and the Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership to protect and restore our precious seagrass habitats. 🌱

Our team at Gidarjil Development Corporation Ltd has been hands‑on with seagrass research and community education, showing how vital these underwater meadows are for marine life, water quality and coastal health. From planting seedlings to monitoring growth in our experimental tanks, we’re inspiring the next generation to care for our oceans. 🌊

Join us in celebrating World Seagrass Day by learning more about seagrass ecosystems, their benefits, and how you can get involved in conservation efforts in your own community. 💙
