Today, members of our Marymount College Interact Club spent time at Oznam Villa as part of their outreach program, building meaningful connections with residents through conversation, shared activities and plenty of smiles. From joining a Rock and Roll exercise session alongside physiotherapy staff to simply spending time together, the experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of community, compassion and human connection. We are so proud of our students for embracing opportunities to serve others and bring joy to those around them. A special thank you to Ms Seidman, Ms Vermersch, Ms Howe and Ms Stephens for supporting this initiative and helping make the visit possible.

Last week, our Model UN students swapped practicing their political debates for a language and culture lesson with Mr Smith, exploring Wiradjuri, the Indigenous language from the Dubbo region. Having already studied Polish and Italian this year, students gained a deeper appreciation of the vital role language plays in culture, identity and understanding others. Respect for cultural and linguistic diversity is at the heart of the United Nations, making this a valuable and enriching learning experience.

Today, as part of Bullying No Way! Week, our Year 9 students created a beautiful Mural of Kindness to promote respect, inclusion and positive relationships across our College community. Students from every year level were invited to contribute by adding their own words of kindness, encouragement and support, creating a powerful visual reminder of the impact our words can have on others. Now proudly displayed above the tuckshop, the mural reflects the collective voice of our community and our commitment to creating a place where everyone feels seen, valued and included. A special thank you to Jo Nairn and our wonderful Art staff for their support and assistance in bringing this meaningful project to life.

Our newly formed Junior Robotics Team proudly represented Marymount College at the RoboCup Junior State Championships on Sunday, competing against 30 teams from across Queensland. Across six challenging rounds, the team continuously refined their robot and improved their performance, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and outstanding problem-solving skills. While the final rankings only tell part of the story, the growth and learning our students experienced throughout the competition were incredible to witness. Better still, they’re already planning what they’ll do differently in 2027! Congratulations to our students on a fantastic achievement and a memorable first state championship experience.

Today, eight of our students travelled to Brisbane to attend the Catholic Mission Socktober Launch at St Stephen’s Cathedral. The students participated in Mass, with Grace and Max having the special opportunity to take part in the Liturgy. It was a beautiful day of solidarity, generosity, and connection, bringing young people together in support of Catholic Mission’s work around the world.

This past weekend, our Marymount Vocal Ensemble took to the stage at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod and delivered a performance to be proud of. As a new and very young ensemble, our students faced strong competition from some of South East Queensland’s most established school choirs, yet earned an impressive Silver Award for their efforts 🥈. After an early 7:30am rehearsal and a full morning of performances, these talented students showcased courage, commitment and remarkable musicianship. We are incredibly proud of all they achieved and excited about what lies ahead for this growing ensemble. Congratulations to our Vocal Ensemble on this wonderful achievement. We have no doubt this is just the beginning 🎤
