Ever noticed the '-ed' suffix has not one, not two, but three distinct sounds! ๐คฏ
Let's have a closer look ๐:
1๏ธโฃ 'id' sound: In words like 'wanted' or 'needed,' the '-ed' ending sounds like 'id,'. We add 'id' for the '-ed' sound after words ending with 't' and 'd,'. 'Waited' sounds like 'wait-id,' and 'loaded' sounds like 'load-id!' ๐ง
2๏ธโฃ 't' sound: In words like 'jumped' or 'laughed,'. If a word ends in p, k, f, gh, sh, ch, ss, c, or x, the '-ed' suffix makes a 't' sound. 'Kicked' sounds like 'kickt,' and 'washed' sounds like 'washt!' ๐ณ
3๏ธโฃ 'd' sound: In words like 'played' or 'yelled,' the '-ed' ending sounds like 'd,'. โCalledโ sounds like โcalldโ and โstayedโ sounds like โstaydโ. ๐ค
Isn't it captivating how a single suffix can create diverse sounds? Keep your ears tuned next time you read! ๐๐

Individualised instruction provides the opportunity for students to learn at their own pace, in their own way, and be successful. This involves changing the pace the information is delivered, the methods through which the content is offered, and the materials distributed.
At Learning Blocks we individualise each lesson to meet the needs of the student.

N is for Never give up!
One of the biggest day-to-day issues children face is persevering through the hard work. When they find themselves frustrated, challenged, and overwhelmed, kids tend either shut down, or experience high levels of anxiety. To help curb these feelings and behaviours, it can be beneficial to help your child develop skills in perseverance.
Here are 1๏ธโฃ0๏ธโฃ ways to encourage perseverance in your child:
1. Appreciate Them for Who They Are
2. Focus On Their Strengths
3. Start Small
4. Quick, Sincere Praise
5. Choose Reasonable Expectations
6. Find The Lesson
7. Show Them How to Plan Ahead
8. Show Growth
9. Cause and Effect
10. Have Them Help Others

R is for READING ๐
Early reading ignites creativity, sparks curiosity, and stimulates the imagination in young children. Often, this leads to role-play as children grow which helps to develop other skills such as empathy, problem-solving, and morality.
Spending time together while reading aloud helps to create strong parent-child bonds and promotes healthy brain development. Children that are read to tend to have improved language and listening skills, experience stronger emotional connections to their loved ones, and gain a lifelong love of reading.
Reading with children is an opportunity to support children to make meaning from texts, and to learn โhow texts workโ. Children can also โrehearseโ their emergent literacy skills, for example concepts of print, phonological awareness and making meaning, through the supportive scaffolding from educators.
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places youโll go. โDr. Seuss

E is for Encouragement ๐ธ
Encouragement can help with self-confidence, effort, motivation, success, self-esteem and validation.
Encouragement is an important part of Learning Blocks. We allow our students the time to grow in their own learning, with the guidance of an experienced teacher. This means that students feel supported to work things out for themselves and confident to give it a try.
It is not only encouragement from a teacher/educator which will keep a student motivated and committed to their studies; parents have a great influence in their child's education and can empower them to strive for academic success.
Parents are the first, and often their greatest role model, therefor regular praise and encouragement will help your child develop confidence and belief in their own ability.
With this added self-confidence students will feel comfortable taking on new challenges at school and in their learning.
๐ธBe enthusiastic.
๐ธPraise your student/child often.
๐ธRecognise them for their contributions.
