ALL IN Celebrating National Reconciliation Week 2026 at kindy.

Last week, our kindy children and staff acknowledged this important week by sharing stories and collaborating on a special NRW project - turning our daily Acknowledgement of Country into a beautiful artwork.

NRW reminds us that it's time for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. It is our responsibility to educate our young learners about the importance of taking action to make change.

At Burleigh Heads Community Kindy, we are ALL IN.

We are very sad to share with our kindy community the news that Brett Gleeson has passed away.

From 2018 to mid-2022, Brett was the kindergarten's volunteer Management Committee Treasurer. During this time, he managed the budget, paid the bills, and turned up to committee meetings with a smile on his face and a genuine willingness to guide and support the kindergarten.

Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Brett knew what a special human he was - kind, calm, generous, determined, positive - the list is long.

Our hearts are with Renee, and Renee and Brett's three children who spent their kindy years with us, as they navigate their enormous loss.

And our thoughts extend to everyone in Brett's sphere as they grieve the loss of their son, brother, colleague, dear friend.

Rest in peace Brett. 💚

This week both of our Kindy groups were lucky to welcome Leigh from Bug Kids for a fun and interactive insect incursion 🐞🌿

The children sang, danced and learnt all about insects and the important role they play in our environment. They also had the opportunity to get hands-on with a variety of fascinating creatures including stick insects, praying mantis, stink bugs, rhino beetles, snails, grasshoppers and leaf insects!

To continue the children’s learning and curiosity, our Kindy has also welcomed a male and female leaf insect along with their very own terrarium into our learning environment. We can’t wait to keep exploring, observing and caring for these beautiful little insects together 🪴✨

Hello Families 💐

Last week we celebrated all of our beautiful mums with a special Mother’s Day stall at Kindy, along with some heartfelt gifts lovingly made by the children 🤍

There’s nothing sweeter than seeing the excitement on little faces as they pick something special for the important women in their lives.

We wish all of the mums, grandmothers, carers, and mother figures in our community a truly lovely Mother’s Day. We hope your day was is filled with love, cuddles, and appreciation for all that you do 🌸

For nearly two decades, Ray has been bringing his passion for clay into our kindy — sharing his talent, patience, and joy with generations of children.

What may look like a simple clay day is so much more…
It’s little hands creating, imaginations growing, confidence building, and memories being made.

Ray, thank you for the time, heart, and creativity you continue to pour into our children year after year. Your impact reaches far beyond the classroom, and we are so grateful to have you as part of our Burleigh Heads Community Kindy family.

Last week we celebrated Harmony Day at kindy 🤍🌏

With Harmony Day falling over the weekend just passed, we took the time during the week to embrace what it means to come together, celebrate our differences, and show kindness to one another.

The children created some beautiful crafts to represent inclusion, friendship and diversity.

“Everyone belongs” — and it’s something we love teaching and seeing every day 💛

Children exploring our Bushtucker garden for the first time this year 🌿

There was lots of excitement heading out the back door today as we spent time embedding Indigenous perspectives through nature and learning.

The children explored the lemon myrtle, native turmeric and lilly pilly, collecting seed pods along the way and noticing the different plants growing in the space.

We also started wondering together how we can care for our garden this year, and will be brainstorming some ideas as a group.

Such a beautiful way to foster curiosity, respect for Country and connection with the natural world.
