This International Assistance Animal Week, we're celebrating the incredible impact assistance dogs have on the lives of the people they support.

At Guide Dogs Queensland, we're proud to be expanding our services with the development of a dedicated PTSD Assistance Dog Program. The program will support people diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with an initial focus on veterans and first responders. These specially trained dogs will work alongside an individual's existing treatment plan to provide companionship, establish routine and perform life-changing tasks.

From interrupting nightmares and providing deep pressure therapy to creating personal space in busy environments and checking in with their handler during times of stress, these remarkable dogs offer practical support that can help people regain confidence and independence.
