What a beautiful day for an excursion into Ballarat. Students enjoyed a session with a librarian at the Ballarat Library, then explored the collection and spaces to enjoy reading. The bus was much fuller on leaving with so many books borrowed by students and teachers!

We then headed to Lake Wendouree for a well earned picnic lunch and play (spotting and cheering along a few ex-Bunga students running the lake with their secondary school!)

A great day for our school, with smiles for miles 😄

Term 2 is a favourite for our students - the cubbies are open! A great outdoors activity involving teamwork, sharing, negotiation, friendship, creativity … the list goes on. We reset the crates and tyres each week, and there is great excitement to start every time!

Our school community feels proud and privileged to take part in today’s Anzac Day commemorations in Bungaree. We cherish this tradition and will continue to honour it across our future generations, remembering the stories and sacrifices that shaped our district.

A huge well done to our local organising committee, the Bungaree and District Historical Society, for another heartfelt and meaningful service (a special shout out to Colin and Sharon Boyd for their unrelenting work in our community). We are also grateful to Legacy Ballarat for their delightfully unexpected donation of their new book to our school, celebrating their centenary of service. Thank you, Mr Morris, for your kind words and thoughts.

To our local district — for the fallen, and for those who have served and continue to serve — thank you.

Our school today observed a commemorative service for Anzac Day with all staff and students attending.

Thank you to our students - Tabby for reading an Anzac poem, "The Farmer Remembers the Somme," (see below); Nola for reading The Ode; and Mitchy, Lily and Chloe for their flag duties.

We do hope to see our school families at the Bungaree Cenotaph tomorrow morning at 8:00am for our community service, where a Gunfire Breakfast will follow by donation at the Bungaree Recreation Centre. Some students have official roles on the morning, and all students are asked to wear their school uniform please.

Will they never fade or pass!
The mud, and the misty figures endlessly coming
In file through the foul morass,
And the grey flood-water ripping the reeds and grass,
And the steel wings drumming.
The hills are bright in the sun:
There's nothing changed or marred in the well-known places;
When work for the day is done
There's talk, and quiet laughter, and gleams of fun
On the old folks' faces.
I have returned to these:
The farm, and the kindly Bush, and the young calves lowing;
But all that my mind sees
Is a quaking bog in a mist - stark, snapped trees,
And the dark Somme flowing.

Let we forget.
