As is tradition for our September luncheon, we talk horse racing!

Terry Henderson from OTI Racing will treat us to a Q&A with Shane Jackson. "Jacko" migrated to Australia from Whitlow, Ireland, 20 years ago. In the years prior, he was a successful jumps jockey, competing in Ireland and England.

Now a horse trainer with training bases in Warrnambool and Flemington, he is quickly rising up the ranks in Australian racing. Just in time for the spring carnival, Jacko may be willing to share some helpful tips.

👏The Old Paradians’ Association is thrilled to announce that Joe Montemurro (1987) will be inducted into the Old Paradians’ Association Hall of Fame, recognising an outstanding coaching career that has taken him from the football fields of Melbourne to the very pinnacle of the world game.

A former Parade student and talented footballer, Joe’s coaching journey began in Australia before he guided Melbourne City Women to an historic unbeaten Premiership and Championship double in the club’s inaugural 2015/16 season, followed by back-to-back titles. In 2017, he took the next step on the international stage, becoming manager of Arsenal Women, where he led the Gunners to the 2018 League Cup and the 2018–19 Women’s Super League title. His remarkable success continued in Italy with Juventus Women, where he won a Series A title, two Coppa Italia trophies and two Italian Super Cups. He later took charge of French powerhouse Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, before returning home in 2025 to take the reins as Head Coach of the CommBank Matildas.

From a young Old Paradian with a passion for football to leading one of the world’s most respected women’s national teams, Joe’s journey is a wonderful example of ambition, perseverance, leadership and a commitment to excellence. We are incredibly proud to welcome Joe Montemurro into the Old Paradians’ Association Hall of Fame on Friday the 23rd of October and celebrate an Old Boy who has made an extraordinary contribution to Australian and international football.

👏The OPA is proud to announce that we will be honouring Bill Gibbins AM (1963) at his induction into the Hall of Fame on the 23rd of October. Bill was the founder of the Jericho Cup, Australia’s longest flat horse race. Held annually, at Warrnambool Racecourse in Victoria, honouring World War 1 light horsemen and their horses.

Bill was also the founder of the trucking company FCL, which was later sold to the LinFox group. From there, Bill became a committed philanthropist, contributing to many organisations, including Wheelchairs for Kids, a company co-founded by Old Paradian Brother Thomas “Olly” Pickett AM.

In 2021, Bill received a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to horse racing, and to people with disability.”

Universally loved and highly respected, Bill passed away on the 3rd of December 2025, aged 78, after a long illness. A successful businessman who became particularly respected for his generosity, love of Australian history and racing, and support for veterans and people with disabilities.

We look forward to honouring Bill and welcoming the Gibbins family and guests to the Hall of Fame on Friday the 23rd of October.

Congratulations to Old Paradian, Roland Ballah (2025) who has been offered his first professional contract with Melbourne City FC.
Roland was part of the Parade College Sport Academy as he balanced his elite sporting career pathway. It is great to see the hard work has paid off, best of luck Roland!

After leaving home in Perth for Melbourne at just 15 years old, Roland Ballah has now signed his first professional contract 🩵

Old Paradian, Yaya Dukuly continues to develop his football career by completing a permanent move from Adelaide United to Slovenian PrvaLiga champions NK Celje.
