We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Monash International Affairs Society for extending an invitation to LIRA to participate in their Model UN event that took place on the 25th and 26th of September last month. This experience was truly remarkable, offering a deep dive into the intricate world of international relations and diplomacy. The discussions, negotiations, and collaborations with fellow participants were both enlightening and enriching. We look forward to continued cooperation and opportunities to foster a deeper understanding of global affairs.

Thank you, MIAS, for this incredible learning experience!

🎉Exciting news!
LIRA has been fortunate enough to be invited by the Monash University based organization MIAS to attend a model UN that they will be hosting on Monash’s campus in Clayton. It will take place on the 25th and 26th of September.

🔹If for whatever reason you are not able to make both days, that is perfectly ok because you are allowed to attend for one day if that suits your schedule better. For a reduced ticket price, just inform LIRA via our email [[email protected]] that is the case so we may inform the organizers.

🔹Free catering will be provided during the event and during the social evenings that take place after each day of the model UN. According to the organisers, they have got approximately 50 delegates so far, so it will be a great opportunity to meet new people with similar interests in international affairs.

🔹Registration closes on the 18th of September at 11:59pm. Please Inform LIRA via our email [[email protected]] if you will be attending this event so we are able keep track of who from La Trobe will be attending the event, in case anyone gets lost on the Clayton campus or something like that.

On the 26th of July, LIRA was fortunate enough to be invited by the Asia Society to attend a Young Leaders Forum.

Where there were panels, workshops, delightful food , networking opportunities and an insightful speech from the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tim Watts.

It was a fantastic experience for the members of our club who attended this event, and we look forward to having similarly rewarding experiences in the future.

On the 27th of April, LIRA was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a networking event for young professionals interested in international affairs.

We heard from speakers, Dr. William Stoltz, Sam Bissett, and Jerry Nguyen, who discussed about a wide range of topics, including: how to find a career in the field of global affairs, cyber security, and trade.

It was a lovely and insightful experience, and LIRA would like to thank those who attended and helped make it so.

This Monday, on the third of April, LIRA was fortunate enough to be invited to be a part of the live audience for the ABC tv programme 'Q+A'.

Where Amanda Rishworth (federal minister for social services), Greg Mirabella (President of Victorian Liberal Party), Sara James (journalist and author), Osman Faruqi (journalist and former greens party candidate), and Deni Todorovic (Trans rights activist) were on the panel.

Discussing interesting topics such as: the Aston by-election, trans rights, the Trump indictment, and more.

It was a fun, informative and engaging event, thank you to those who attended who helped make it so. We may do this again in the second semester, so to those who unfortunately missed out this time round, hopefully we will see you the next time this comes around, or perhaps at a different LIRA event the club will run this year.
