So that's a wrap for our Step Up Farmers for 2023! Our 4 participants and program coordinator prepped, planted and picked (actually "lifted" but hey!) thousands of heads of garlic.

This year's crop of garlic - larger than ever - is off to the hot hands of Tom Sarafian to be made into the most delicious of products - that all got garlic!

Our thanks go to Darebin City Council and Open Gardens Victoria for their support of our program with their respective "2023 Community Support Program" and "2023 Giving" grants.

Our last Pop Up Garlic Farmer workshop for the year is always bittersweet.. but this year it’s the last PUGF workshop for us, too.

It’s with a heavy heart that after 10 years we’ve decided to wind up Farmer Incubator in the new year. Running a sustainable not for profit is challenging and it’s time for us to take a well earned break and nurture other interests. We’d like to thank everyone that has been a part of our journey over the last decade - our staff, volunteers, participants, partners, funders, farmer friends and many others. We’re super proud of the community we’ve helped grow and the contribution we’ve made to building a fairer food system.

You are welcome to join us at the Pavilion at CERES in Brunswick East tomorrow (Sunday the 26th of November) from 3pm to 5pm to celebrate everything we have achieved over the last decade. It will be an opportunity to come together and connect over what has been an incredible journey 🙂 Family, partners, friends and puppies are most welcome!

Our Pop Up Garlic Farmers visited the Harcourt Organic Farming Co-Operative where they enjoyed an inspiring guided tour of 4 co-op enterprises. This was followed by a deeply honest and thought provoking discussion around co-op model farming, the joys and difficulties that come with it and many lessons learned along the way. Massive thanks to the farmers who hosted and shared their time and reflections with us.
