Welcoming our new Spiny Leaf Insects!

One of the things we love most about Goanna Patch is the beautiful involvement of our families. ❤️

A huge thank you to one of our wonderful families for coming in and teaching us all about Spiny Leaf Insects! The children were so excited to meet our new little friends and learn how to care for them.

We were taught what they need to live, grow and thrive, what they eat, where they live, how to gently handle them and how we can care for them each day. We also got to explore their fascinating life cycle, from egg, to nymph, to adult, giving the children a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand how these amazing little creatures grow and change.

We absolutely love when families share their knowledge, passions and experiences with us. It creates such a strong sense of belonging, connection and community, and the children truly love seeing their families become part of their learning.

A beautiful hands on experience in caring, nurturing and taking responsibility for our new little friends. 🌿🪲❤️

🚒🔥 Little firefighters in action 🔥🚒

Today our little Goannas became firefighters as they worked together to help put out the fires in our tuff tray. Using paint, droppers and their careful hands, the children explored different drawn fire situations and used their problem-solving skills to “save the day”. 💧

As we played, we talked about the important role firefighters have in our community and the number we can call in an emergency 000.

This experience supported fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, imaginative play and meaningful conversations about safety, helping others and looking after our community. 🌿

🐛🦋 As part of our caterpillar project, the children took part in a creative craft experience exploring the life cycle and incredible metamorphosis of a butterfly.

As they created each stage from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis and finally butterfly. We talked about the amazing transformation that takes place in nature and how every stage plays an important role in the butterfly’s journey.

Projects like these give children the opportunity to revisit their learning over time, building their understanding through these experiences, conversation and curiosity 🐛 🦋

As part of our NAIDOC Week learning, the children first enjoyed reading the beautiful Dreaming story, How the Birds Got Their Colours before creating their own colourful bird paintings.

Using bright paints, the children expressed their creativity while connecting with the story’s themes of kindness, sharing and Australia’s unique birdlife. Experiences like these provide meaningful opportunities to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives through storytelling, art and conversation.

✨ Swipe to see some of the children’s wonderful bird creations. We think they’re pretty special! 🐦🎨

We love creating spaces where children can learn about and celebrate the richness of the world’s oldest continuing living culture through meaningful experiences. ❤️🖤💛
