Today, we celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day—a day to recognise and celebrate the strengths, cultures, identities and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

This year's theme, Living Our Truth, celebrates the strength, stories and identities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, while reminding us all of the importance of listening, learning and walking together with respect.

At Goodstart Early Learning Bundaberg - Takalvan Street, we know that gross motor development is an important part of every child's learning journey, from our youngest learners right through to our kindergarten children.

Through opportunities to crawl, climb, balance, jump, navigate obstacle courses and explore movement in different ways, children are building strength, coordination, balance, confidence and body awareness.

These experiences not only support physical development but also encourage problem-solving, resilience, risk assessment and confidence as children challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements.

🦖 Dinosaur Day Adventures

Roar-some fun was had throughout the service as we celebrated Dinosaur Day this week at Goodstart Early Learning Bundaberg - Takalvan Street 🦕🦖

Our children explored, created and discovered through a range of hands-on experiences inspired by these fascinating prehistoric creatures. From squishy dinosaur sensory play and crumbly moon sand adventures to dinosaur painting and icy dinosaur eggs waiting to be rescued, there was no shortage of excitement!

Through play, children were encouraged to explore their curiosity, develop problem-solving skills, strengthen fine motor skills and engage their imaginations as they investigated each experience at their own pace.

We loved seeing the excitement on their faces as they searched for the hidden dinosaurs and brought their own prehistoric stories to life. What a dino-mite day! 💚

🌱 Learning about sustainability through play, creativity and nature! 💚

Here at Goodstart Early Learning Bundaberg - Takalvan Street, our Kindy children have been exploring what it means to care for our environment in meaningful, hands-on ways.

We've been nurturing our garden, eagerly waiting for our passionfruit to ripen while taking time to observe the many insects and bugs that have made our garden their home. These moments spark wonderful conversations about living things, habitats and how we can all help care for our environment.

Our sustainability journey didn't stop there! After noticing many of our markers had lost their lids and dried out, the children put their problem-solving skills to work. Together, we brainstormed ways to give them a second life rather than throwing them away.

Our solution? Soaking the dried markers in water! 🎨 Today, we took our colourful marker water outside and used it to create beautiful artwork on our outdoor wall.

By encouraging children to think creatively, reduce waste and care for the world around them, we're helping to build lifelong habits that support a more sustainable future—one small action at a time. 💚🌏
