Australian Icon and legendary Country musician was a high school drop out.

Slim Dusty's formal schooling finished at the age of 12 when he planned to be a Country Musician. He picked up an old acoustic guitar and learnt to play songs by listening to the radio.

He was born in Kempsey on June 13, 1927.

At the age of 11, Gordon Kirkpatrick (Slim) announced he was opting out of his family name. He would be now known as Slim Dusty. One year later he left school.

Slim sang Waltzing Matilda at the Sydney Olympics to an estimated global audience of nearly 4 billion.

Not bad for a high school dropout from Kempsey.
