A picnic 102 years ago.

This picture shows Bunbury High School students having a picnic at Turkey Point in 1923.

This is one of the photos from Bunbury Senior High School in "Collections WA". You can view their collection here:
https://collectionswa.net.au/organisations/bunbury-senior-high-school

"From 1900 to the 1950s, Turkey Point was a popular recreational destination. Located on the Leschenault Estuary, it was so called because of the wild turkeys that once roamed the area.

The resort was on a twenty acre site with thatched huts that accommodated the holiday makers. Locals too ventured there for day trips and dances in the large tea pavilion with its jarrah flooring. Everything that went to Turkey Point went by boat.

The installation of the “Cut” and groynes led to silting as the Leschenault Estuary and the demise of Turkey Point."
