Today our FELC friends participated in National Simultaneous Storytime in the Flinders Secondary School library. 📚
Now in its 26th successful year this early literacy event promotes a love of reading and involves children across schools, early learning centres, playgroups and libraries all across Australia enjoying the same story at the same time.
The book this year is “Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller” by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A. Minton. 🦘
Thanks to the Secondary library team for such an engaging storytime.

Our latest inquiry at FELC is taking flight! 🦋
From a walk in Gumtree Gully to a special visit from butterfly enthusiast Nicole, our little learners are exploring the wonderful world of Monarchs and Common Crows.
A few fun facts they learnt along the way:
🌿 Monarchs ONLY eat Milkweed plants.
🐍 A caterpillar sheds its skin five times (just like a snake!).
💎 The chrysalis turns clear exactly 24 hours before the butterfly emerges.
🏠 We must be gentle with trees because every leaf could be a tiny home!
This term, our FELC friends are exploring big ideas of nature and belonging. A big thank you to Nicole for sharing her incredible knowledge and specimens with us. Our FELC friends were absolutely captivated! 🙏

Throughout Term 1, our FELC students explored big ideas of identity, belonging and what it means to be part of a community.
Together, they discovered that peace isn’t just something we hope for, it’s something we actively build. In everyday moments… taking turns, showing empathy, working through challenges and including others.
Through this inquiry, students co-created a shared Peace Agreement, capturing their values, ideas and commitments to one another.
Along the way, they developed important skills in communication, empathy and perspective-taking, and a growing understanding that they each play a role in shaping their community.
A powerful reminder that peace is something we practise every day.

A very special visit from Major Carl Shine 🎖️
What a privilege it was to welcome Major Carl Shine to FELC on Thursday morning! Our children had the wonderful opportunity to learn about the significance of Anzac Day through the eyes of a service member.
Major Shine spoke beautifully about the values of bravery, mateship and respect. He shared how these key attributes do more than just make a good soldier; they are the foundations of being a great Australian citizen and a kind friend within our own community.
It was a proud morning for FELC as we saw our children listen with such curiosity and heart. Thank you, Major Shine, for sharing your story and helping us reflect on the spirit of the Anzacs on our day of remembrance.

It wasn't just about the finish line - it was all about having a go! A huge shout out to our brave students who gave it their absolute all, and our FELC educators who weren't afraid to hit the track and lead by example! 👟
📷 The photos say it all. What a day! 😀

Celebrating Red and Yellow Day at FELC ❤️💛
Yesterday our FELC friends enjoyed a special visit from surf life saver Mike and his assistant Chris.
Through a fun and interactive session, the children learned about beach safety and the important role surf life savers play in keeping our community safe.
Our FELC friends also took part in some ‘nipper-style’ games, a playful and active way to connect with the themes of community, safety and belonging. Living so close to the coast, these are valuable lessons for our young learners.
Thank you Mike and Chris for helping our FELC friends learn how to stay safe by the water. 🛟

Bush Kindy adventures 🌿
Our FELC friends love exploring this special outdoor space, where imagination and discovery go hand in hand. From spotting colourful birds to creating muddy masterpieces in the bush kitchen and building stories inside the palm frond cubby, every visit brings something new.
Digging in the dirt, counting pine cones, gathering around the campfire and practising turn-taking are all part of the learning and fun.
Most impressive of all has been their patience and care. Sitting quietly with their best listening ears on, our young explorers watch for flashes of yellow and green in the trees. 🦜 They know that moving gently and respectfully helps keep the birds nearby, just like true bush adventurers. 🔎
