CURRICULUM
At St Vasilios we aim to develop students who are bilingual global citizens, with an appreciation, knowledge and understanding of their heritage, identity and language. Our highly qualified and experienced teaching staff provide learners with different
learning experiences that engage a diverse range of learning styles and abilities. Our curriculum follows the Victorian Curriculum guidelines and focuses on conversational skills, reading, writing, religion, culture and dance. In addition, our students attend some of the major feast day church services that occur during the year, and also partake in excursions and incursions that complement themes and topics. Our school has a long standing accreditation with Community Language Victoria and complies with all Child Safety regulations. We have First Aid trained officers on site, and our staff regularly attend Professional Development sessions to keep up to date with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide rich and engaging learning experiences. ICT and EDUCATION PERFECT
ICT features strongly in our Curriculum with the use of school laptops. Students regularly engage in various electronic language activities including Education Perfect. Our students learn in a fun and exciting way also through film and song. THEATRE
Drama and performance plays an important role in our classrooms (re-enacting poetry, short story, history, mythology), particularly in preparation of official school events such as ‘Apokries’, Independence Day and the annual Christmas concert. VCE CLASSES
Over the years our VCE students have achieved high results in the Greek language. Our VCE curriculum is interesting and challenging, enabling students to achieve their very best. Former students often return to offer their services to the school and to do volunteer work. SCHOOL MAGAZINE
“To Fanaraki” is an annual school publication, which features much of our students’ wonderful work, and we proudly share it with our school community. OTHER INITIATIVES
St Vasilios Greek Language School embraces many initiatives promoted by the wider community. We encourage our learners to take part in many of these:
The Poetry Competition and The Demosthenes Greek Public Speaking Competition organised by the Modern Greek Teachers’ Association of Victoria
Speak Greek in March campaign, which our school extends for every month of the school year
Certificate of Attainment in Greek organised by the Greek Consulate of Melbourne
