What is the Songcraft Method about? This video introduces the four main characters of Songcraft and the Creative Loop - the key stages involved in the songwriting process: Dreamer, Creator, Crafter and Performer.

This is a system designed to help singer-songwriters (and other creatives) with the creative process by identifying the main steps taken in order to write and finish a song.

A lot of people are interested in songwriting but don’t really get into it, maybe because they don’t know how to start writing a tune, or they don’t know how to put all their ideas together and finish a song, or they have no idea how to enter that realm whatsoever - the Creative Loop is a simple guide to identify the major steps in the creative process.

Maybe during this video you’ll identify where your natural strengths lie along the Loop, and also where you have the potential to develop your skills and get more actively creative. Rest assured that each of these aspects is teachable: that’s what Songcraft is all about.

Ultimately, some songs are charged with emotion, and others aren’t. There is no right or wrong to songwriting, however, when writing a love song — being charged with love is definitely more convincing for your audience.

This leads to a simple principle of capturing emotion in song: write when you feel it. Don’t wait until the emotion has subsided — you may lose that chance to write an emotionally driven song.

Love is one of our favourite things to write songs about. Yet so many songs about love are rubbish. Why?

Songwriting is a double artform of sorts. It’s not just poetry and not just music, but the unique fusion of both. On this level, there’s a double-translation going on in songwriting, a pairing of a lyrical message with a musical sequence. They’re totally intwined.
