🌟 WEEK FIVE – Everyday Objects, Extraordinary Defences! 🌟
We’ve officially completed week five, which means we’re almost halfway through the course! 🎉
This week was all about creativity and adaptability — learning how everyday objects can become effective defensive tools when needed. From water bottles to credit cards, a cup of coffee, and yes, as we hilariously discovered, even a pair of socks can be used as an improvised defensive tool! 🧦
The focus was on staying alert to what’s around you and recognising how your environment can work for you. In true “Bourne Identity” style (thanks for the comparison ladies! 😉), we explored how awareness, quick thinking, and strategic targeting can turn the simplest items into effective tools for self-defence.
Each exercise built on what we’ve learned so far — combining situational awareness, targeting and striking — to help us think fast and act decisively under pressure. Another awesome session from an awesome group! 👏
👉 Next week, we’ll move into defence from grabs — learning how something that might seem harmless at first can quickly escalate into something more dangerous, and how to respond to get out of it as quickly as possible.
Fantastic work, team! Keep practising your techniques and sharpening your skills — every bit of practice helps make your reactions faster and more effective 💥✨
See you all next week

Women’s Self-Defence Course
🌟 WEEK FOUR – Controlled Aggression & Calm Under Pressure! 🌟
Can you believe it? We’ve just completed week four, which means we’re already one-third of the way through the course!
This week we brought everything from the previous sessions — striking, awareness, and intuition — together to deal with sudden high-level attacks. These included both imminent threats (when you can see the attack coming) and surprise attacks (when you can’t).
We explored what happens to us psychologically and physiologically in these moments — how the adrenaline surge affects our body’s ability to react and defend. We also learned about the counterpoint to that adrenaline dump — how to channel that energy into controlled aggression. 💥
Controlled aggression isn’t rage — it’s the disciplined and deliberate use of assertive, forceful action when it’s needed most. We learned that keeping control of our emotions is key, and we got to play with that balance on the kick shields, channelling intensity with focus and purpose.
We also trained for those moments that take us completely by surprise — learning how to defend and strike from all angles, even when starting with our eyes closed 👊 This helped us practice not just the chaining of defensive strikes, but also how to calm the mind when it goes into overdrive — creating that crucial head space to assess the threat and respond effectively.
Another awesome week done with an amazing team — building confidence, sharpening skills, and adding another layer to your self-defence toolkit! 🙌
👉 Next week, we’re turning everyday life into a self-defence opportunity as we explore improvised weapons — learning how ordinary objects can become an effective self-defence tool.
Keep practising your techniques whenever you can — remember my ‘3 R’s’ – Repetition builds Reactive Responses 💪
See you all next week

🌟 WEEK THREE – Trusting Your Instincts & Finding Your Voice! 🌟
We’ve officially wrapped up week three of our women’s self-defence course — and what an amazing session it was! 💪
This week we stepped into real-world scenarios, focusing on those uncomfortable situations where someone is getting too close for comfort — not overtly aggressive, but something just doesn’t feel right. We explored situational awareness and the importance of listening to that inner alarm — that gut instinct that tells us something is off. When your gut says nope, listen to it!
Through one of our key exercises, we learned to recognise where our personal space boundaries are and how our bodies give us cues — from tension to hesitation — when someone crosses that invisible line. It was eye-opening to see just how much we rely on body language and facial expressions to decide what feels safe, and how much trickier it becomes when those outward signs of aggression aren’t there.
From there, we practised the escalating assessment process — how to safely test a person’s intentions and when to take action. Whether that meant maintaining a safe distance and disengaging, creating a safe distance, or using defensive strikes to make space and get away, the focus was on calm, confident decision-making and action, and you all nailed it!
And perhaps the most important part? 💡We learned to tap into our assertive voice — using it not just as a deterrent but as a powerful self-defence tool. Finding that strong, commanding tone can be confronting, but it is also incredibly important. That voice can project confidence, attract attention, and interrupt a potential attacker’s plan.
As women, we’re so often told to not make a fuss, to keep ourselves small so others feel comfortable, and to second-guess ourselves. This week, we called ultimate BS on that 💩.
We are learning to trust ourselves, protect our space, and use every tool we have — physical, mental, and vocal — to stay safe.
👉 Next week, we turn it up a notch. We’ll be looking at high-level attacks — when someone enters your space aggressively and you must defend yourself. This is where all the skills we’ve been building — awareness, boundaries, voice, and movement — start coming together to add another layer in our self-defence toolkit.
Amazing work everyone — See you next week 💪
