🔬🌊 Compound: Algae-powered Innovation

Last week, Compound, one of the emerging startups based at BioQuisitive, hosted an exhibition showcasing their work on micro & macro algae and how these organisms can be transformed into sustainable materials for industry. From biodegradable packaging to algae-derived fertilizers and biofuels, they’re reimagining how biology can solve climate and waste challenges.

It was amazing to see the creativity, curiosity, and collaboration driving this project and how nature continues to shape the future of design. Huge congrats to the Compound team for an incredible showcase! 💙

What a week for BioQuisitive! 🎉

Our team proudly presented our PFAS Biosensor at the Australian Synthetic Biology Challenge (ASBC), tackling one of the world’s most persistent environmental threats: “forever chemicals.”

As the only community-led organisation competing among universities across Australia, we’re incredibly proud to have showcased what citizen science can achieve when curiosity meets collaboration!

A huge thank you to our mentors, volunteers, and the entire BioQ community for your support throughout this journey. Your passion and teamwork brought this project to life from idea to the ASBC stage.

Congratulations to all the winners and participating teams for their inspiring work! It’s incredible to see such creativity and innovation driving the future of synthetic biology in Australia❤️

This is just the beginning for our biosensor work, and we can’t wait to keep pushing the boundaries of community-led biotechnology☺️

Inside the Lab: PFAS Biosensor

We sat down with two of the scientists leading BioQuisitive’s submission to the Australian Synthetic Biology Challenge (ASBC) to talk about their work on a biosensor for PFAS, the “forever chemicals” that persist in our environment and threaten human and ecosystem health. 🌍💧

BioQuisitive is proud to be the only community-led organisation competing in ASBC this year, standing shoulder to shoulder with universities across Australia and proving what citizen science can achieve. 💙

Watch as our team shares what makes PFAS such an urgent challenge, how the biosensor works, and why community-led projects like this matter.

📸 Big thanks to our volunteers, mentors, and community for making this possible. Stay tuned, this is just the beginning!
