NAIDOC Week 2026 | Continuing Our Journey Together
As NAIDOC Week comes to a close, we have reflected on the meaningful learning, conversations and connections that have taken place across our centre.
As a team under new leadership, our focus has been on extending the work we began during National Reconciliation Week. Together, we explored what it means to recognise and acknowledge the land on which we live, learn and play, while celebrating the rich multicultural community that makes our centre so special.
Rather than viewing NAIDOC Week as a single week of celebration, we have committed to an ongoing journey of authentically embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our everyday curriculum.
Our journey began with the story Welcome to Country, where children explored belonging, respect and connection to Country. We introduced the Yugambeh greeting "Jingeri" and shared conversations about what it means to make others feel welcome, safe and valued within our community. Through this learning, we continue to pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, learn and play, and to Elders past, present and emerging.
A special highlight has been collaborating with local First Nations artist Piper, who created a beautiful artwork that now proudly belongs to our centre. Her artwork tells the story of connection and belonging, with birds representing the sharing of stories across Country, gathering places symbolising community and relationships, and flowing pathways reflecting the many journeys that bring children, families and educators together. The vibrant colours celebrate the diversity of our centre, where every person contributes their own story and strengthens our shared community.
We are incredibly grateful to Piper for sharing her culture, knowledge and creativity with us. Her artwork will remain a lasting reminder of our commitment to listening, learning and walking together with respect.
Jingeri. Welcome. Everyone belongs here. 🖤💛❤️
