We are pleased to announce that applications for the Geoff Boxsell Legacy Prize are now open.
Invitation to Students
The Geoff Boxsell Legacy Prize is now open for submissions.
The story of spreadable butter reminds us that some of the most important innovations begin by solving a real problem. Geoff Boxsell and Kevin Richardson combined technical knowledge, practical experience and persistence to develop a product that went on to change consumer expectations around the world.
Geoff received the 2025 Dairy Science Award in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the dairy industry and has donated two $500 prize vouchers to support future dairy scientists.
Submit a short response (maximum 500 words) to the following question:
”How could your research contribute to significant change in the dairy industry, similar to the impact of spreadable butter?”
Entries should address:
• The problem the research is trying to solve
• Why it matters to farmers, processors, consumers or regional communities
• How it could make a difference to the dairy industry
Two winning students will each receive a $500 gift voucher. Winners will be selected by a small judging panel, with Geoff Boxsell invited to participate, subject to availability. The prizes will be presented by Geoff at a suitable dairy science, industry or student event.
Judging Criteria
Entries will be assessed on:
• Industry relevance
• Potential impact
• Clarity
Eligibility
The competition is open to currently enrolled dairy science students at Australian Universities, including undergraduate and higher degree research students.
