Today, our Jalargandi children attended the 4th Anniversary celebration of "Bookish Play, The Deadly Way" and Indigenous Literacy Day at the Broome Public Library.

This day was extra special for Some of our Jalangardis who have been apart of this program since the beginning with our own CEO starting it all those years ago while on maternity leave!

We enjoyed listening to stories, playing pass the parcel, singing Yawuru Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, exploring animal puppets and sharing some yummy cake.

The children had so much fun learning, playing, and connecting with others in our community. It was wonderful to see their excitement throughout the morning.

A big thank you to the Broome Public Library team for hosting such a special event. We love being out and about in the Broome community and creating memories together while fostering a love of books, stories and culture!

📚✨ What a wonderful Book Week we've had at Jalygurr! ✨📚
It has been a busy week filled with stories, dress-ups, laughter and lots of fun activities. A huge thank you to all of our children, families, and educators who got involved and helped make the week so special.
We loved seeing our Book Nook come to life, with children stopping by throughout the day to read and share stories with their families and educators!
To finish off our week, we came together for a whole-centre reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in French, beautifully read by Caroline. We then enjoyed a snake story chosen by our Kindy children and read by Shinaed.
If your child hasn't yet received their green The Indigenous Literacy Foundation book bag filled with books to take home and enjoy, please chat with your educators at collection time. Any remaining book bags will be waiting for families next week.
Thank you again for helping make Book Week such a memorable celebration of reading, imagination, and learning.
📖 Happy end of Book Week and happy Friday everyone! 💚🐛✨

Learning Through Play, Creativity & Exploration

Our children have been busy exploring, creating and discovering through art and sensory play.

Creative Expression
Through painting, the children experimented with colour, texture, movement and different ways of making marks. Open ended art experiences encourage children to express their own ideas while developing fine motor strength, hand eye coordination, concentration and confidence.

Sensory & Sand Play
In the sandpit, our little children were digging, scooping, pouring, mixing and getting messy! These simple experiences are full of learning supporting cause and effect, early mathematical concepts, problem solving, coordination and sensory development.
These experiences provided opportunities for children to play alongside their friends, share resources, communicate their ideas, observe one another and build important social skills and relationships.

We value giving children the freedom to explore, experiment and learn through play. Sometimes the messiest moments create the richest learning!

🖤💛❤️ Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day at Jalygurr-Guwan 🖤💙💚🤍

What an incredible day celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day at Jalygurr-Guwan!

With around 160 people joining us, our centre was filled with children, families, community, culture, laughter and plenty of fun. Our Jaly children had an absolute ball, they certainly love it when we have a party! 🎉

A huge thank you to all of the organisations, stallholders, volunteers and community members who came together to make the day so special. Everyone brought something wonderful to the celebration, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and effort that went into creating such a memorable day for our children.

A special thank you to:

• SNAICC-National Voice for our Children for their support in celebrating this important day for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

• Yawuru for sharing language and stories with our children and families. These opportunities to connect our children with language, culture and storytelling are incredibly special.

• Tara Gower for the wonderful dance lessons for our children.

• Cherie from Aarnja for allowing her staff to come along and generously volunteer their time to support us. Having those extra helping hands and community support made such a difference.

• Ronaldo and Monette from Matt's Filipino Cuisine for keeping us all fuelled with amazing coffee and delicious food throughout the morning! ☕️

And a HUGE shout out to our incredible Jalygurr team!

Our team went above and beyond to ensure the day ran smoothly. From planning and setting up, to welcoming families, supporting activities, helping our community partners and making sure our children had a fun filled morning, What a team 🙂

We are so fortunate to be part of a community where organisations, families and people come together to collaborate, share culture and support one another.

Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, volunteered and helped behind the scenes.

It really does take a community, and what a community we have. 🖤💛❤️

Happy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day from everyone at Jalygurr.
