Sleep Hygiene Tips for better sleeping

ROUTINE
Children like routine. Keeping consistent with a routine helps a child know sleep time is coming. It helps set their circadian rhythm in knowing when wake and sleep times are going to happen.

BED/COT
A child’s bed or cot is for sleeping. Keep it as a safe place to rest. Create a comfortable sleeping environment that is SIDS safe. Keep it as a positive place.

WINDDOWN
Have a predictable and calm wind down time before sleep time. Avoid electronics and other stimulating devices.

CAFFIENE
Avoid stimulating drinks and food before bed.

BEDROOM
Keep bedroom at a comfortable temperature. Use block out blinds if room becomes too light.
Avoid white or yellow lights and use white noise.

This image made me feel both sad and empowered. To think what some mothers have to endure. Then it also made me feel empowered, because mothers are so strong.

You are so strong, stronger than you think. You protect your loves. You stand in the fire. You survive. You succeed because your love runs deeper than anything this world could ever offer.

But where is her own shield? She has given it to her child. And her army behind her? her village, the one every mother deserves, yet many are left to survive without.

‘Nobody hides pain better than a mother who’s trying to stay strong for her kids.’ - anon

If you feel like this mother right now - so much love to you♥️

What is Sleep Training ?

Back in the 1950’s and it was super popular in the 1980’s, the sleep training model, Ferber method ‘cry it out’ was used. You may have had your parents or grandparents recommend using this type of sleep training for your baby.

Sleep training today is not putting your baby down and letting them cry till they are exhausted and fall asleep. New research has provided the importance of providing your child with emotional support during sleep.

Sleep training can be gentle, calm and use techniques that you feel comfortable with. You can be there to support your baby to sleep, without the guilt of walking away and leaving them to sort it out.

I can assist you in developing a routine that suits you and your babies biological sleep need. No more guessing when your baby might need to sleep.

I can help give you tips on how to get through those sleep regressions when they hit.

I am here to support you. To listen to you. To assist you in creating better sleep hygiene for you and your baby. To help you get back to quality sleep.

If you feel sleep training might work for you, or you have more questions. Please send a message.

Mummy’s fault

“ It’s my fault “ is a common phrase I hear during sleep consultations. Maybe if I hadn’t rocked them , or maybe if I just let them cry. We are constantly questioning ourselves , and often outside influences don’t help us feel any better.

Well I’m here to tell you. Loving your baby and doing what works at the time is not creating sleep problems. You can’t create bad sleep for your baby by ensuring they are safe and loved.

Some babies just find it harder than others. And some babies have underlying issues that need to be addressed. So if what your doing is working for you and your baby, you don’t need to change it.

If it’s not working , and you know that maybe some help is required. That’s ok too. It’s not a sign of failure to ask for help. It’s a sign of love and concern ❤️. And to me that’s a sign of strength 💪
