A big thank you to our students for their enthusiastic participation in the Road Safety session this week. Students learned practical strategies for reducing distractions, including avoiding mobile phone use, and gained a better understanding of how speed influences safety for both car passengers and e-scooter riders.🛴

This learning is especially important as many of our students already ride e-scooters and are preparing for their learner driving permits. Developing safe habits now helps build confident, responsible road users for the future. 🚘

Thank you to the team at Road Safety Commission Western Australia for delivering such an engaging session for our young people.

Last week students were busy attending events within our community.

On Monday students visited The Broome Public Library for a session with Kelly Canby, an internationally published illustrator and author. Our students were lucky to meet with Kelly and gain an insight into her creative processes. Students explored how small ideas can become books and the ways to becoming an author or illustrator. 📚📝

On Tuesday students celebrated National Youth Volunteer Week by joining Broome Circle at Germanus Kent Aged Care home. Students participated in setting up and playing a game of bingo with the residents. Our young people enjoyed talking with the residents and helping with the session.

We are proud of our students for engaging within our community and trying new things. 🌼💙

Last Friday our school had the pleasure of hosting Divina D’Anna MLA and Nicola Lee the CEWA Regional Officer for the Kimberley for a tour of our wellbeing garden and café projects. Supported by our Waste Schools Grant our garden project reflects our commitment to sustainability, nurturing wellbeing, life skills, and community connections. 💚🌱

As term 3 begins our junior students are hard at work preparing for the launch of The Well-Bean Café. Our students were proud to share their progress and vision for the café with Divina and Nicola. We look forward to opening our doors and celebrating the students’ achievements with our community. ☕️

🖤💛❤️ Fifty Years Deadly 🖤💛❤️

This week students have been celebrating NAIDOC week. On Thursday members of the CEWA First Nations team joined us for the NAIDOC week Liturgy. Staff and students worked together to cook a feast of kangaroo tail stew and damper to share.

Students learnt about Torres Strait Islander culture including a presentation from Henry Williams on traditional musical instruments. We thank Henry for sharing his knowledge and culture with our students today.

❤️💛🖤NAIDOC WEEK ❤️💛🖤

This morning our students proudly participated in the Kullarri NAIDOC Festival Reconciliation Walk and Opening Ceremony.

At St Martin de Porres we recognise the strength of First Nations peoples, and we are committed to allowing our students to grow strong in their culture, faith and spirit.

We walk together as one towards reconciliation within our community and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians, the Yawuru peoples for the land on which our young people learn, grow and live. We pay respects to our Elders past, present and emerging, and thank them for the opportunity to guide our young people.

We would like to thank St Mary's College Broome for welcoming and including us in their space throughout this event.
