Sign One Song is an ongoing community focused series of workshops aimed at teaching Auslan "Key Word Sign" using popular songs.

The outcome is to facilitate and overcome communication barriers within our community. You do not have to be a great singer. We will be singing for fun in a group. You do not need to have experience in Auslan sign language. The workshops are welcoming, inclusive and engaging.

Hi everyone,
So sorry about the delay with SOS Workshops.
Sonya and I have so much going on with family and the dance studio at the moment that we simply haven't had the time to bring you the workshops of the standard you expect.
Please be patient with us, as we will be back on track in 2023 with a special announcement and new workshops.

Hi everyone,

I have had to postpone July's workshop What A Wonderful World to Saturday 16th July. In 2 weeks time.
I have a tickle in my throat and prefer to be safe than sorry.
However I am sorry to prolong the fun we have for a fortnight. 😠

Ticket holders that can not make the new date get a refund.
Those that can make it, just turn up as usual on the new date.
I know who you are 🧐

For anyone thinking about coming along, tickets are available with all the updated info.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

Due to some recent inquiries, I wanted to share my thoughts and plans about Sign One Song.

This coming workshop is only the third in my series and the workshops are intended for people in our community that do not use Auslan and are not part of the deaf community.
The reason for this, is that the workshops are targeting people who are not hearing impaired with the intention of giving them the skills to be able to communicate with the hearing impaired in social and everyday situations.

At the moment I do not have the capacity to engage an Auslan interpreter for the workshops.

I facilitated a Key Word Signing Choir at the Stockton Centre and I found that staff learnt and retained the signs more easily when singing and signing. Hence, running the Sign One Song series of workshops.

Since starting Sign One Song I have received increasing enquires from the hearing impaired community. As a consequence of this and my passion for a Signing Choir, I have a long term goal to create a combined choir with both hearing and hearing impaired members.
At this stage I am focusing on non-signing and hearing people, this is not to exclude the hearing impaired, I just need non-signers to learn and gain confidence in Auslan signs so that when I bring it all together we will have a cohesive group with less barriers.

What a great turn out for Bad Moon Rising yesterday afternoon. (Saturday 4th)
We had such a collection of wonderful people. From those interested to see what it's all about to those that are studying the Auslan Certificate Course and/or have family members who use Auslan to communicate.
There was also amazing interest in being a part of a signing choir.

Thank you to all those amazing people who completed the Bad Moon Rising workshop and I'll see you next month for "What A Wonderful World" (first recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1967).
