On Wednesday, the Girls AFL team travelled to Teralba to compete in the U16 Gala Day. 🏉

It was fantastic to see the girls grow in confidence and improve with every game, showing great teamwork, determination and effort throughout the day.

CONGRATULATIONS AKASH
Congratulations to our 2026 school captain, Akash, who was recognised today at NSW Government House for his outstanding contribution to the community, receiving the 2026 Order of Australia Association Youth Community Award.

This is a wonderful recognition of Akash's commitment to making a positive difference to those around him. We are incredibly proud to see Akash recognised at such a prestigious occasion.

BILL TURNER FOOTBALL
Congratulations to our Junior Boys Football team who have continued their impressive run in the Bill Turner Cup, securing two wins in the Round of 16 in Coffs Harbour and progressing through to the National Semi-Finals!

This marks the furthest one of our Merewether HS boys’ teams has progressed in the history of the Bill Turner Cup.

We look forward to cheering them on as they take on the semi-final at Speers Point on 8 September.

A special thank you also to our wonderful parent supporters for cheering the team on and assisting with transport throughout the tournament. Your support is greatly appreciated!

🏀 U15s BASKETBALL SUCCESS 🏀

Well done to both the girls' and boys' Under 15s Basketball teams who took part in the City Zone competition last Thursday. Congratulations to both teams for playing with skill and composure, and for representing MHS with pride.

The boys' team came in at second place and has successfully made it through to regionals, while the girls' team did an amazing job to come in at third place, only just missing out on a place at Regionals.

What an outstanding day of sporting achievement for our Merewether Moos! Good luck at Regionals, team!

AUSTRALIAN POOL RESCUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulation Zeke W, Year 7, and Jake M, Year 10, on your success at The Australian Pool Rescue Championships in Adelaide.

Zeke won three individual medals:

🥈Silver - 50m with Fins
🥉Bronze - 100m Obstacle

Together, Jake and Zeke collected medals as part of U14/15 relays:

Congratulations to our **Year 7–9 Junior Volleyball Champions!**

A fantastic competition with plenty of close games, great skills and even better sportsmanship throughout. Well done to everyone who got involved and made the lunchtime competition such a success!

YEAR 8 DEBATING SUCCESS

Congratulations to the Year 8 Debating Squad who is undefeated in the local round of the Premier's Debating Challenge after narrowly defeating the Year 7 team arguing that politicians and public servants should not have to send their kids to public schools.

We look forward to seeing what Year 7 can do as they continue to mature and develop their skills next year, but offer a sincere congratulations to the Year 8 team who should now progress to the Regional Finals. The teams were lucky enough to be adjudicated by Mim P who graduated in 2024 after representing MHS in debating from Years 7-12. She offered outstanding feedback to help the teams continue to develop.

ENVIRO GROUP LEADERS PRESENT CHEQUE TO PORT STEPHENS KOALA HOSPITAL

Three of the leaders of Enviro Group - Monica, Rosalind and HyoMin presented a cheque for $1770.64 to Sharon Egan from Port Stephens Koala Hospital at assembly.

The funds were raised during Green Day and will be used to help koalas and other native fauna such as owls. Sharon Egan gave an informative talk including an outline of the work of the hospital and how to identify unwell koalas. 🐨🌍

YEAR 9 BUSINESS EXPO

Congratulations to our innovative Year 9 Commerce students, who completed the final stage of their Assessment Task 3 with a Business Expo Day!.

These young entrepreneurs showcased their amazing product ideas in a buzzing trade-fair atmosphere, impressing MHS students and staff alike with their creativity, passion, and business savvy.
