🚨 Could We Be One Step Closer to Change for Neurodivergent Students? 🧠

I’m excited to share that a Member of Parliament has reached out to me regarding the petition we’re potentially looking at starting to help create change within Australia’s tertiary education sector!

Through our work at Neurodiversity Academy, we’re seeing just how many systems and processes within education simply aren’t working for neurodivergent students. In some cases, these systems are creating unnecessary barriers for people who just want the opportunity to learn and succeed.

I’ve now been given the opportunity to have a conversation with an MP, and while it’s still early days, I’m really interested to see where this could lead.

But here’s where I NEED YOUR HELP! 👇

💬 If you could sit down with a Member of Parliament and discuss the challenges neurodivergent students face in tertiary education, what would you say?

What systems need to change? What support is missing? What could universities, TAFEs and other training providers be doing better?

I don’t want this conversation to be just about my experiences or opinions. I want to hear from the community and understand what matters most to you.

🎨 Sometimes You Need to Do Something Just for Yourself!

When you’re running a social impact organisation like Neurodiversity Academy, it’s easy to become so focused on helping others and creating change that you forget to make time for yourself.

And while I absolutely love what we’re working towards, I’ve realised how important it is to sometimes step away, meet new people, try new things and just enjoy life outside of work.

So today, I started something completely different… art classes! 🎨🖌️

I’m learning how to draw and paint, and I honestly have no idea how good I’ll be at it! 😂

But that’s the exciting part. I’m not doing it to become an amazing artist. I’m doing it to learn something new, challenge myself, meet different people and, most importantly, have fun!

Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to make a difference in other people’s lives that we forget about our own personal growth and wellbeing.

I’m excited to see where this new adventure takes me!

🌟 Putting My Hand Up to Help Create Change for Neurodivergent Students! 🧠💜

Well, I’ve just put my hat in the ring for an opportunity to join the Disability and Inclusion Advisory Committee with the Australian Tertiary Education Commission (ATEC)! 🙌

Will I get selected? Who knows! But I thought, why not give it a go?

Through the work we’re doing at Neurodiversity Academy, we’re hearing more and more stories about the challenges neurodivergent students are facing across universities, TAFEs and other tertiary education providers.

And I believe it’s so important that these experiences are being heard by the people who can help influence change.

For me, this opportunity isn’t just about sitting on a committee. It’s about potentially bringing the voices of our community into important conversations, sharing what we’re learning and helping shape a more inclusive education system.

We’re not going to change everything overnight, but every opportunity to have a seat at the table is another step forward.

Whatever happens, we’ll keep pushing for change! 💜

💜 We Spoke Up for Neurodivergent Students… And Look What Happened!

Since sharing our concerns about the challenges neurodivergent students are facing in TAFEs and universities, the response has been incredible! 🙌

We’ve had so many people reaching out to us, sharing their experiences and wanting to help create change.

What’s been particularly exciting is hearing from doctors, researchers, educators and other professionals who are already doing amazing work in this space.

It’s made us realise that there are so many people out there who share our concerns and genuinely want to make a difference.

At Neurodiversity Academy, we believe that real change happens when we work together, not in isolation.

We’re now exploring opportunities to connect and collaborate with some of these amazing people to see how we can collectively improve the experiences of neurodivergent students across Australia.

It’s still early days, but we’re excited about the conversations happening and look forward to sharing more as things develop.

💜 Because every neurodivergent student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis.

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Neurodiversity Academy has been featured in a blog by ADCET – Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training! 🙌

It was an absolute pleasure working with the amazing Danielle Kutchel to share our story and the work we’re doing to help create a more neuro-inclusive tertiary education sector.

We’re also so proud to see one of our endorsed providers, Nepean Community College (RTO 1223), featured in the article! A huge shout-out to Wesley Jones and Jade Leggatt for their ongoing commitment to creating more inclusive learning environments. 💜

As a social impact organisation, everything we do is driven by one goal: to create real, meaningful change for neurodivergent learners across Australia’s universities, TAFEs and other tertiary education providers.

We know there is still so much work to be done, but moments like this remind us that our message is being heard and that people are recognising the importance of what we’re trying to achieve.

Just Because Someone Advocates for Neurodiversity Doesn’t Mean They’re Good for You! 💜

As a neurodivergent person, I’ve learned just how important it is to surround yourself with people who make you feel safe, respected and supported.

Yesterday, I made the difficult decision to cut ties with someone who, quite frankly, has never made me feel emotionally safe.

And here’s something I’ve realised. 👇

Just because someone is doing amazing things in the neurodiversity space doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the right person to have in your life.

You can respect the work someone does without accepting how they make you feel.

There are so many incredible people out there who will inspire you, encourage you, celebrate your achievements and genuinely want to see you succeed.

Surround yourself with those people! ❤️

Life is too short to keep giving your energy to people who constantly bring you down.

Being neurodivergent can come with enough challenges already. We don’t need to make life harder by surrounding ourselves with people who make us question our worth.

Protect your peace. Find your people. And never feel guilty for choosing your own wellbeing. 💜

We’re Giving Neurodivergent Students a Voice! 🎤🧠

Yesterday, we announced that Neurodiversity Academy is working towards launching a national petition to create meaningful change in how our TAFEs and universities support neurodivergent students.

Since then, we’ve had so many people reaching out, sharing their experiences and showing their support. ❤️

And it’s got me thinking…

We need to start hearing these stories!

I’m looking at interviewing neurodivergent students, both past and present, to hear about their experiences studying at TAFEs and universities across Australia.

What challenges have you faced? What support did you receive? What needs to change?

I want to give people an opportunity to share their stories, because the more we talk about these issues, the harder they become to ignore.

Real people. Real experiences. Real change.

🚨 I’m Starting a National Petition for Neurodivergent Students in TAFEs and Universities!

Enough is enough! It’s time we started breaking down barriers instead of creating more of them.

I’m hearing from neurodivergent students who are being asked to pay for updated assessments because their existing diagnosis is considered too old.

Then there are people who can’t afford a formal diagnosis in the first place. They still experience challenges, but accessing support can be incredibly difficult.

Why are we making education harder for people who are already facing barriers?

We need a tertiary education system that:

✅ Makes reasonable adjustments easier to access.

✅ Supports students who don’t have a formal diagnosis.

✅ Stops unnecessary requirements for updated diagnostic assessments.

✅ Has support arrangements in place BEFORE students start studying.

✅ Gives teachers the training and resources they need.

Through Neurodiversity Academy, I’m looking to launch a national petition to take these concerns to Parliament and push for meaningful change.

This isn’t about attacking TAFEs or universities. It’s about working towards a better, more inclusive education system.

If we don’t stand up and push for change, who will?

Apparently, Your Neurodivergence Has an Expiry Date! 🤯

Seriously, when are we going to stop putting unnecessary barriers in front of neurodivergent students?

Someone recently commented on one of my reels sharing their experience at university.

They had been diagnosed as neurodivergent around 15 years earlier, but when they tried to access support, the university wouldn’t accept their old diagnosis and required them to get reassessed.

Are you kidding me?! 🤦‍♂️

ADHD doesn’t suddenly disappear after 15 years. Dyslexia doesn’t have an expiry date. You don’t suddenly stop being autistic!

Yet we’re expecting people to jump through more hoops, spend more money and deal with additional stress just to access the support they need to succeed in their education.

This is exactly the type of bu****it we need to change!

At Neurodiversity Academy, we’re passionate about breaking down these barriers and helping create education environments where neurodivergent people can thrive.
