After 20 years in the Air Force followed by 20 years as a defence contractor, Darren has decided to pursue a career in security, a natural fit given the skills he has already built during his time in the military.

Changing careers can be challenging, so it's good to know that some skills are transferable and others can be learned in a practical and enjoyable environment. Darren did his CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations at our Ipswich campus.

Whether you're also leaving the military or just starting your career, security training could be a great fit. The course builds the skills for security officer, crowd controller, and monitoring officer roles. View course dates: https://zurl.co/HISCq

Thinking about a career in security? We asked three Queensland security employers what they actually look for when hiring.

Greg Kimmings from Queensland Parliament, John Martin from Queensland Protective Services, and Shawn Allen from Strategic Security highlighted communication, teamwork, and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

🎓 Congratulations to our newest Security graduates!

Fresh from completing their training at our Ipswich campus, our graduates are now eligible to apply for their Queensland Security Licence — the first official step into the security industry. We're proud of what they've achieved and excited to see where their training takes them.

So, where can this qualification lead? Our students and future students could end up behind the scenes in a control room monitoring CCTV and alarm systems, out in the field as a Security Officer protecting people and property, or on the ground keeping crowds safe at concerts, sporting events, corporate sites and critical infrastructure. Security professionals are needed everywhere! That is from retail stores and hospitals to universities, construction sites, airports, bus and train stations and commercial buildings, making it a genuinely abundant and rewarding career choice.

When a fire alarm goes off, does everyone in your building know exactly what their role is?

"These courses aren't really alternatives to one another — they cover different layers of a workplace fire response. Fire Extinguisher-trained staff can respond in the first moments a fire breaks out. Fire Wardens organise the safe evacuation of their area. A Chief Fire Warden coordinates the whole building and liaises with emergency services once they arrive."

We've broken down exactly what each role involves and how they fit together.
