Br Neville Solomon, Interim Executive Director of Australian Marist Solidarity, recently attended a liturgy at St Augustine’s College, Queensland, where he took the opportunity to thank the College community for its continued support to AMS and its fundraising efforts.

Through their generous contributions, students and staff at St Augustine’s have helped fund the construction and development of important Marist projects in the Solomon Islands.

During her recent visit to Timor-Leste, AMS Programs Manager Milika Nation visited Fundasaun KATILOSA, an NGO dedicated to the education, healthcare, social inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities in the Baucau region. The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about KATILOSA’s ongoing programs and its work supporting people with disabilities, their families and local communities. Obrigada barak Director Laurentino & Head Physiotherapist Friti for hosting AMS.

Through the generous support of our funders, AMS is able to support a number of projects undertaken by KATILOSA. The visit also provided an opportunity for AMS to explore potential areas for future collaboration and support.

Milika was accompanied by Sebas Santos, who has been involved in supporting Marist projects, and Margie Beck, a long-time friend of the Marist community in Timor-Leste🙂

Last week, Australian Marist Solidarity (AMS) worked alongside Australian Catholic University (ACU) to deliver a “Train the Trainers” workshop in Baucau. Participants were students from the Instituto Católico para a Formação de Professores (ICFP), among them Marist Brothers currently studying at the institute.

Over the past two days, our new trainers have taken the next step, leading community workshops with young people in Lautem and putting their training into practice.

A huge congratulations to all our trainers for stepping up and embracing the opportunity! It has been wonderful to see them confidently facilitate the workshops, engage with young people and put their new skills into practice.
Today is a well-deserved rest day before the team continues the workshops in Baucau on Thursday and Friday.

Congratulations to our trainers, and all the very best for the next stage!

Br Neville Solomon, Acting Executive Director of Australian Marist Solidarity (AMS), recently visited Adelaide, where he met with students from Sacred Heart College preparing to take part in immersion experiences across the Pacific.

At the Marcellin Campus in Somerton Park, Br Neville commissioned 56 students by presenting each with an AMS Solidarity Badge.

The commissioning formally marks the students’ upcoming immersion experiences and sends them out with a sense of mission and responsibility as they prepare to engage with Marist communities across the Province. 🙂

A new computer lab at Marist Matriculation School in Viyalanmedu, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), South India, was officially opened on 18 August 2026, empowering students to develop the digital skills they will need for the future.

We are deeply grateful for the generous support of the St Patrick’s Marist College community in Dundas, Australia, which has a longstanding connection with the Trichy community and Marist Matriculation School and helped make the computer lab a reality.
For many students at Viyalanmedu, who come from families whose livelihoods often depend on farming and daily labour, the new facility will provide access to technology and learning opportunities that may otherwise be difficult to access - and could be life-changing.

The computer lab is expected to equip around 30 students each year with essential computer skills. The space also has the potential to serve as a training centre for the wider community, extending the school’s educational mission beyond the classroom. 🙂

Today, AMS Programs Manager Milika Nation, together with Br Peter Corr, visited Kulugia Primary School in Kulugia, Timor-Leste 🇹🇱

Thanks to the generous support of our Marist Networks, a new three-classroom building is currently being constructed for Grades 4, 5 and 6. Located in a remote area, the new classrooms will provide much-needed support and opportunities for the young people of the community 🙌

Over the past two days, AMS has been working alongside Australian Catholic University (ACU) through a “Train the Trainers” workshop as part of important research focused on the needs of young people across the Baucau Diocese region of Timor-Leste 🇹🇱

We’re pleased to share that all participants have successfully completed their training! 🎉 The trainers will now take what they have learnt and help facilitate and share this knowledge with young people in the communities of Baucau and Lautem.

✍️ The research project seeks to directly engage with young people and youth services, capturing a detailed understanding of community needs from the perspective of one of its most vibrant, yet vulnerable, demographics.

It also aims to map the existing community assets and capacities that can support education initiatives and help encourage young people as they transition into adulthood.

Congratulations to all participants! 👏 🥳
