QLD Lockdown Support

The COVID-19 Disaster Payment is a weekly payment available to eligible workers who can’t attend work or who have lost income because of a lockdown.

Timing of the payment
The disaster payment is generally accessible if the hotspot triggering the lockdown lasts more than 7 days.
From 2 August 2021, payments will apply from day one of the lockdown and will be paid in arrears once claims open (07/08/2021).

How much is the payment?
The COVID-19 disaster payment amount available depends on:
• How many hours of work you have lost in the week, and
• If the payment is on or after the third period of the lockdown

From 02/08/2021 you will be eligible to $450 weekly if you have lost between 8 and 20 hours and to $750 weekly if you have lost more than 20 hours.
The payment applies to each week of lockdown you are eligible. On 29 July 2021, the Prime Minister stated that the COVID-19 disaster payment will not be taxable.

Eligibility
The COVID-19 disaster payment is emergency relief. It is available if you:

• Live or work in an area that is subject to a state or territory public health order that imposes restriction on movement and is declared a Commonwealth COVID-19 hotspot, or
• Have visited an area that is a Commonwealth COVID-19 hotspot and you are subsequently subject to a restricted movement order when you return to other parts of the impacted region or interstate.
• Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident or temporary visa holder who has the right to work in Australia, and
• Are aged 17 years or over, and
• Have lost 8 hours or more of work or a full day of your usual work as a result of the restrictions - losing work includes being stood down by your employer, not being assigned any shifts for the week of restrictions and being unable to work from home. Losing a full day of what you were scheduled to work but could not work because of a restricted movement order includes not being able to attend a full-time, part-time or casual shift of less than 8 hours.

​​​​Due to exceptional circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ensure the supply of critical services, the Department of Home Affairs and Australian Border Force will take a flexible approach to student visa holders working beyond their usual work limitations, but only in specified industries.
You can work for ​more than 40 hours a fortnight if you are:
✅employed by an aged care Approved Provider or Commonwealth-funded aged care service provider with a RACS ID or a NAPS ID, before 8 September 20​20
✅employed by a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme provider
✅enrolled in a health care related course and you are supporting the health effort against COVID-19, as directed by health officials
✅employed in the agriculture sector
✅employed in the tourism and hospitality sector

"BREAKING: The lockdown ends at 6pm tonight, but some precautions will remain in Greater Brisbane for 10 days until 1am on Friday, 22 January.

• You must carry a mask at all times.
• Masks must be worn in indoor places including shopping centres and supermarkets, gyms, places of worship, libraries, public transport, and taxis and rideshare vehicles.
• Masks must be worn in workplaces if social distancing isn’t possible and it’s safe to do so.
• You don’t need to wear a mask in private vehicles, while outdoors at a safe distance from other people or if you’re doing strenuous exercise.
• Businesses and venues can have one person per 4m² indoors and one person per 2m² outdoors.
• Smaller venues up to 200m² can have one person per 2m² up to a maximum of 50.
• You must be seated to eat and drink, and no dancing is allowed except at weddings.
• Gatherings are restricted to 20 people in homes and public spaces.
• Weddings and funerals can have up to 100 people, and dancing is allowed at weddings without restrictions.
• Indoor concert venues and theatres can operate at 50% capacity or one person per four square metres, whichever is greater.
• Outdoor stadiums can operate at 50% capacity with COVID-safe plans.
• Restrictions on visits to hospitals, aged care, disability accommodation and prisons will remain."
