🇦🇺 Australia Student Visa Rules Have Changed 🤯🤯

The new student visa rules officially take effect TODAY (2 October) 💥

1️⃣ Working Holiday / Visitor Visa / 485 Holders: Onshore Student Visa Applications Are Now BLOCKED
If you currently hold one of these temporary visas, you can no longer apply for a Student Visa from within Australia from today.
You’ll need to leave Australia to lodge your application, and you must also be outside Australia when the visa is granted.

2️⃣ Current Student Visa Holders Face Restrictions When Applying Again
If you already hold a Student Visa and want to apply for another Student Visa onshore, you may also be affected.
There are limited exemptions, such as:
• Studying a PhD
• Progressing to a higher level of qualification
• Needing to extend your current course for up to 12 months to complete your studies

3️⃣ Bringing Your Partner or Children Is Now Heavily Restricted 🚨
This is one of the biggest changes!
For most new applications, you generally can’t include your partner or children as accompanying family members unless a specific exemption applies.
Even more importantly, if you already hold a Student Visa, you cannot add family members to your visa after it has been
granted. There are no exceptions to this rule.

4️⃣ Already Applied Before 2 October? Don’t Panic!
If you submitted your application before 2 October, it will be assessed under the previous rules and won’t be affected by these new changes.

⏰ Daylight saving starts this Sunday, 4 October!

At 2:00am, clocks in New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania, and South Australia will move forward one hour. Queensland, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory will stay on standard time.

📍 Living in Brisbane? Your clocks will not change, but the time difference with Sydney and Melbourne will become one hour. Check the times for any online classes, meetings, or calls with people in other states.

🌞 Daylight saving runs until Sunday, 4 April 2027, giving participating states more daylight in the evening during the warmer months.

New processing priorities are now in effect.

MD121 & MD122 have replaced the previous skilled visa processing priorities, with priority sectors now receiving higher processing priority across eligible visa streams.

👮 Law Enforcement & Defence

📋 Affected visa subclasses include 482, 186, 189, 190, 191, 491 & 494.
