A fantastic day of competition for our Brighton Touch Football Academy at the Redcliffe Touch Association Gala Day!

Our girls went through the pool games undefeated, earning their place in the grand final. Following some outstanding team-based touch football, the girls secured a 5–3 victory to claim the title! A special mention to Lucia, who was voted Player of the Carnival in the girls’ competition, an incredible achievement.

Our boys also battled their way into the grand final, producing a nail-biting contest. Locked at 2–2 at full time, the game headed into a 4v4 drop-off. After two minutes the scores remained tied, before more than five minutes of 3v3 golden point eventually saw our boys narrowly defeated.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and sportsmanship shown by both teams. A fantastic day of competition, with plenty of learning to take forward as we continue our preparation towards QLD All Schools later this year.

Today, a number of our Soccer Academy students proudly represented Brighton at the VETO Queensland School Futsal Competition at Nissan Arena, putting together an outstanding day of futsal.

Across their three matches, the team recorded three impressive wins: 9–6, 20–3 and 7–3! These results see Brighton finish the three match days 2nd overall, earning the #2 seed heading into the knockout finals next term.

Across all three match days, our students have represented Brighton incredibly well, playing with great teamwork, connection and pride every time they take the court.

We can’t wait to see what this group can achieve when the finals get underway next term!

This week we honoured and continued the legacy of Miette, a much-loved former Brighton student who sadly lost her battle with DIPG as a Year 3 student in 2013.

Each year, our school community comes together through our annual Rainbow Free Dress Day to remember Miette and support the Miette Skiller Scholarship.

Together, our students and families raised funds, once again showing the incredible spirit and generosity of the Brighton community.

Thank you to everyone who helped turn our school into a rainbow of colour and, most importantly, for helping us keep Miette’s memory and legacy alive year after year.

Over two days, 17 athletes proudly represented Brighton State School at the Bay District Track and Field Carnival. After earning qualification through their performances at our Senior Athletics Carnival, these students competed against the best athletes from across the Bay District, where qualifying standards were tougher than ever.

Our team represented Brighton with determination and pride throughout the carnival. Many athletes achieved personal best performances, with 9 of our 17 competitors qualifying for the Met North Track and Field Carnival.

Every one of our 17 athletes embodied what it means to be Proud to be Brighton. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, preparation and the way they represented our school across the two days. This week, our Environmental Captains proudly represented Brighton State School at the Global Link Australia Event during an inspiring three-day experience at Tangalooma Island.

As part of the event, our student leaders presented one of the exciting sustainability initiatives they are currently driving at Brighton, transforming the under-utilised cricket nets on our top oval into a student-led garden. This project showcases our students’ commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation and creating meaningful change within our school community.

We are incredibly proud of the confidence, leadership and passion our Environmental Captains demonstrated while representing our school and sharing their vision for a more sustainable future.

This week, our Junior Athletics Carnival was a fantastic celebration of participation, house spirit and school pride. Students embraced every event with enthusiasm, determination and encouragement for one another, creating a day filled with positive competition, teamwork and plenty of smiles. Opportunities like these help foster a lifelong love of sport while building resilience, confidence and a strong sense of belonging. A heartfelt thank you to our families for their support, encouragement and involvement throughout the day.

As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, our First Nations students participated in a cultural experience that honoured this year's NAIDOC theme, 50 Years Deadly. Students had the opportunity to deepen their connection to culture, Country and community. Experiences such as these are incredibly important in ensuring our First Nations students feel seen, valued and culturally safe, while empowering the next generation to proudly carry forward the rich cultures, traditions and stories of First Nations peoples.

Canberra Tour Day 4 – Another action-packed day saw our Year 6 students experience some of Australia’s most iconic landmarks. From taking in the breathtaking views at Mount Ainslie Lookout to exploring Parliament House, Government House, the Australian War Memorial and the Royal Australian Mint, students deepened their understanding of Australia’s history, democracy and national identity. The day finished with an exciting evening at Questacon, where hands-on challenges and interactive exhibits sparked curiosity, laughter and plenty of fun. Another unforgettable day filled with learning, discovery and memories to last a lifetime

Canberra Tour Day 3- Today was a day our Year 6 students will remember forever as they experienced the snow! For many, it was their very first time seeing and playing in the snow, making the day even more special. From snowball fights to sharing laughs with friends, it was a day filled with excitement, fun and unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Canberra Tour Day 2- Our Year 6 students woke to a chilly Canberra morning and jumped straight into an action-packed day of learning and adventure. The day included an inspiring visit to the Australian Institute of Sport, along with tours of the Australian Electoral Commission, Old Parliament House and Cockington Green Gardens. The perfect end to a busy day was taking over the entire arcade, where students enjoyed some well-earned fun and quality time with friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
