Today marks an exciting milestone for the Myrtleford community, and we are pleased to share the news with you.

The Victorian School Building Authority, on behalf of the Victorian Government’s Department of Education and in partnership with Alpine Shire Council, announced a $9.639 million investment to build a new Mountain View Children’s Centre in Myrtleford.

This announcement follows more than five years of advocacy and planning to address the growing demand for early childhood education and care in our community.

The new centre will substantially increase childcare and kindergarten capacity, expanding from the current 97 places to 160 places.

This is an important milestone for Alpine Children’s Services and an extraordinary investment in the future of local children, families, and early years education.

Construction is expected to commence in the near future, with the new centre anticipated to open in 2028. The building will be constructed on the existing Mountain View car park, allowing the existing service to remain operational throughout construction.

We are currently working through the practical arrangements required to ensure children and educators remain safe and supported during the build. This includes temporary parking and access arrangements, as well as measures to minimise disruption for families. We will continue to keep you informed and share further details as plans are finalised.

Mountain View is our fastest-growing service. This new, purpose-built centre will enable us to better meet the increasing demand for early childhood education and care in Myrtleford, while providing contemporary learning environments designed to support children for many years to come.

The centre will also play an important role in helping us deliver the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms, including the introduction of 30 hours of funded kindergarten.

Once completed, the new Mountain View Children’s Centre will bring together long day care, kindergarten, maternal and child health services, toy library, and playgroup programs in one modern, accessible, and welcoming community hub. It will strengthen the support available to local families and provide an outstanding environment in which children can learn, grow, and thrive.

As planning progresses, we will continue to provide updates, including information about temporary arrangements and construction timelines. While a project of this scale will inevitably bring some change, please be assured that we are committed to working closely with our families and staff to make the transition as smooth as possible.

We would like to acknowledge Alpine Shire Council for its sustained advocacy and support over many years, and our Board for its leadership and commitment throughout this journey. I also extend my sincere thanks to our exceptional educators and staff, whose professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to children and families have helped us reach this important milestone. This project is not only an investment in a new building; it is also a recognition of the outstanding work our team delivers every day and the vital role that high-quality, community-focused early childhood education plays in Myrtleford.

We look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you, and we thank our families and the broader community for their continued trust and support.

So proud of our amazing team!
