🧱 FACILITATOR TIP FRIDAY | Every role matters.

Asking children to “work together” doesn’t necessarily teach them how to work together.

Collaboration is made up of many different skills - communicating clearly, listening to others, negotiating, problem-solving, taking turns, considering another person’s perspective and working towards a shared goal.

And like any other skill, children need opportunities to learn, practise and strengthen them.

This is where the structure of LEGO® Based Therapy becomes so valuable.

The roles give children a meaningful reason to communicate and rely on one another. Rather than practising social skills in isolation, they are using them in the moment, for a purpose.

The important thing isn’t what gets built.

It’s what children are developing while they build together.

For educators, that’s an important distinction.

LEGO® Based Therapy isn’t simply building with LEGO® bricks. When facilitated effectively, the building becomes the vehicle for developing communication, collaboration and social connection.

Understanding what is happening around the bricks is just as important as understanding what to do with them.
