Our Year 9/10 netball teams participated in the Northside Gala Day today. Team 1 went through the round games finishing top in their pool, with Team 2 finishing second in their pool. Both progressed to the semi final where they played each other, with Team 1 moving through to the Grand Final and Team 2 moving to the 3rd/4th play off. Team 2 finished 4th to a very strong SFX team, and Team 1 won the Grand Final against Canberra High and will now progress to the ACT finals day. Thank you to our umpires Serena, Anna and Ananya who did a wonderful job today as well.

Today, our Chinese teachers, Dora Chen and Linda Deng, took the Senior Chinese students to visit a Chinese cultural exhibition at the CIW Gallery, ANU.

As part of their BSSS unit “Diverse Perspectives”, students explored historical objects from the Han to Song dynasties, attended a talk by Dr Alex Burchmore, and spoke with Gallery Director, Ari Heinrich to deepen their inquiry research.

A wonderful opportunity for students to engage with Chinese culture through authentic artworks and expert insights.

Over the past week we have had students in our Merici Snow Team participate in the ACT/NSW State Championships in both skiing and snowboarding with some outstanding participation and results. Finishing the week the team participated in the ACT Schools Cup on Sunday. Exciting news, once again the ACT Cup is ours as for the second year in row our Merici Snow Team came away with the win!!

Some of the individual and team results include: State Champs Matilda Milsom 3rd Snowboard GS (Giant Slalom) and Snowboard Cross. 4th Snowboard slopestyle. Hana Garner 5th Ski slopestyle. Tessa Canning 1st Snowboard GS.

We are so very proud of the ALL girls for their commitment to and participation in the Merici Snow-
Sports team and how they represent Merici.

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce our 2027 School Captains.

Congratulations to Sara Venkat, who has been elected College Captain, and Trinity Phillips, who has been elected College Vice Captain. We are delighted to see these two exceptional young women step forward to lead our College community in 2027.

We would also like to recognise all of our outstanding candidates and thank them for the courage, confidence and commitment they demonstrated in putting themselves forward for these important leadership roles. The calibre of our candidates is a wonderful reflection of the strength, character and quality of the young women at Merici.

Leadership is about so much more than a title. It is about service, compassion, courage and inspiring others - qualities we know Sara and Trinity will bring to their roles.

We wish Sara and Trinity every success as they embark on this exciting leadership journey. We look forward to seeing them grow, inspire and make their mark on Merici in 2027.
