🌳Tree Planting Day🌳
Our Year 5 students had the fantastic opportunity to participate in a tree planting day in partnership with volunteers from PEET and Creating Communities. 🤝 It was a fantastic turnout and it great to see so many students and community members getting involved to grow a canopy for the future! 🌱 A big thank you to community partners PEET and Creating Communities for making this event happen.

What an incredible privilege it has been to watch Principal Anika Blackmore lead Maarakool Primary School from the ground up.

Being a Foundation Principal is about so much more than opening the doors to a new school. It’s about building a vision, creating a strong team, connecting with families and establishing a culture where every student and staff member can thrive.

It was wonderful to see Anika and Maarakool Primary School recognised as part of this group — recognising her contribution to public education and highlighting the important work happening as new school communities are established across WA.

‘What is a Foundation Principal?’ you ask.

Foundation Principals have the privilege of leading the creation of our new schools.

In many ways, they are builders:
✨ They provide guidance on the physical construction of their schools;
✨ They build brand new school teams; and
✨ They build connections with local families and their school communities.

This is all in readiness for that special day when their school opens for the very first time.

Spending quality time with these school leaders over dinner at Parliament House was a real honour.

The Cook Labor Government has opened 30 new primary schools and 8 new secondary schools since 2017.

Between now and 2030, we’ll open 11 new primary schools and 2 new high schools.

It was exciting to hear directly from these awesome Foundation Principals about their experiences and perspectives as they help shape this work from the ground up. ❤️

📚 Learning, Sharing & Leading 📚

Today looked a little different for our leadership team. We stepped back into our teaching shoes to share our expertise with leaders from across the state, supporting them to develop and enact a coaching model that builds teachers capacity.

At MPS, our teachers engage in regular cycles of coaching aligned to our evidence-based, high-impact teaching framework, supporting all learners to receive high-quality instruction each day. It was a privilege to work with Fogarty EDvance again and support other schools in strengthening their coaching practice. ❤️

🔥NAIDOC Week🔥
We were fortunate to have Binar Futures, Aunty Di Ryder and NGALA providing some amazing First Nations' learning experiences for our students at the end of last term!
Students made damper, 🍞experienced traditional dance performances and a smoking ceremony, 🔥 engaged in face painting and friendship bracelet weaving, 🪢 created First Nations' inspired artwork, 🎨 competed in a staff vs student basketball match 🏀 and proudly performed "Beds Are Burning" and "I Am Australian" 🎵.
A massive thank you to Binar Futures, Aunty Di Ryder and NGALA for sharing your cultural knowledge to support our students' learning. 🙏 A huge thank you also to Ms Billy-Rooney, Ms Horeb, Mr Jett and the Cultural Responsiveness Team for coordinating these fantastic First Nations' learning opportunities for our students. 🤩
