National Reconciliation Week at Our Centre
Throughout National Reconciliation Week, children across all rooms engaged in meaningful experiences that celebrated and explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and perspectives.
In the Baby Room, children continued their learning through sensory exploration, engaging with sand play and Aboriginal symbols. These hands-on experiences encouraged curiosity, discovery, and learning as children explored different textures and materials.
Our Toddlers participated in a variety of cultural experiences, including creating Rainbow Serpent artworks while learning about the story and its significance. Educators also facilitated discussions about the Aboriginal campfire, helping children develop an understanding of Aboriginal traditions and storytelling practices. The children further explored Aboriginal culture through painting the Aboriginal Flag and learning about its colours and meaning.
In the Kinder Room, children deepened their understanding of Aboriginal culture through stories, role-play, collage activities, and group discussions. They explored the Aboriginal Flag, learning about the significance of its colours and symbols, and watched a video that highlighted its history and importance to Aboriginal peoples and communities.
Our Preschool children continued their learning through the sharing of Dreaming stories, including Bunjil the Creator. This story introduced children to the important role of Bunjil in Aboriginal culture and highlighted the strong connection between people and Country. Meaningful discussions encouraged children to reflect on caring for the land, people, plants, and animals around them, fostering a deeper understanding of respect, responsibility, and care for our shared environment.
These experiences provided valuable opportunities for children to develop respect, appreciation, and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures while supporting our commitment to reconciliation and cultural inclusion.

The Kinder children helped decorate our banner for next Tuesday’s Twilight Tour. They explored a new painting technique, using spray bottles to apply colour dye across the banner. This approach encouraged the children to experiment with different tools, strengthen their fine‑motor skills, and express their creativity in a fresh and engaging way.

Our Preschool children have continued the exploration of reptiles! Our playground became a treasure trove as children gathered natural materials like sticks, leaves, sand and rocks to design realistic miniature habitats. By constructing these environments in a tub, we explored the three distinct landscapes reptiles call home, the water, forest and desert. This hands-on project sparked conversations about how cold-blooded reptiles rely on their surroundings to regulate their body temperature, whether be basking on a sun-warmed rock or seeking shade beneath a leafy canopy.
