In the lead up to National Reconciliation Week, today we recognise National Sorry Day. This day acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’ (Source: National Sorry Day - Reconciliation Australia).

April is Autism Awareness Month!
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disorder. It affects how people behave and interact with the world around them (Source: Autism Spectrum Disorder https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/autism)
The aim of Autism Awareness Month is to support and show acceptance of people with autism. There are over 200,000 Australians with autism. As a student, you can show acceptance and support to your fellow students with autism who may experience some challenges in the classroom and social settings.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in 2018:
• there were 205,200 Australians with autism (a 25% increase from 2015)
• males were 3.5 times more likely than females to have ASD
• 77.7% of young people (aged 5 to 20 years) with autism who were attending school (or another educational institution) reported experiencing difficulty at their place of learning.
