What’s our best advice?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. ⁉️ Asking the right questions can make all the difference: in an IEP meeting, during the eligibility process or just during a conversation with a team member.

But the problem is many parents don’t know WHAT to ask. That’s where an expert can be helpful. Or even a friend or family member who has been through the process before.

That’s why we encourage parents and caregivers to use their networks. Reach out to people who know Special Education and how the process works. Oftentimes those conversations help put you on the right path!

Being a strong advocate for your child means ensuring that the “I” in IEP stays front and center. Every part of the IEP should be individualized and should meet your child where they are in that moment.

That means asking questions about specialized instruction, reviewing data consistently and not taking “we don’t have that here” as an answer.
