In 2024, the Auburn community proudly named our Yellow House Freeman, in honour of Indigenous advocate, Olympic champion and Companion of the Order of Australia recipient, Cathy Freeman

On Monday, we were incredibly honoured to welcome Cathy Freeman to Auburn Primary School and share with her how grateful and proud we are to have our House carry her name.

Cathy generously spent time speaking with our current Freeman House Captains before joining our school community at Assembly. It was a very special opportunity for our students to hear from someone who so strongly embodies our Auburn values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. πŸ’›

Cathy’s story and achievements are a wonderful reminder to our students to always do their best, believe in themselves and keep going.

Thank you, Cathy, for taking the time to visit Auburn and for making this such a memorable day for our school community. ✨

On Wednesday, our Year 3/4 students visited Melbourne Zoo as part of their Biology learning, participating in the Features, Life Cycles and the Environment education program.

Students explored the incredible diversity of living things - observing animal features and life cycles, investigating predator-prey relationships, and discovering how animals rely on their environment and each other to survive. πŸΎπŸ”

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity to bring classroom learning to life while encouraging students to think about how we can all help protect wildlife and habitats for the future. πŸ’š

On Friday, our Year 1/2 students visited Hamer Hall at Arts Centre Melbourne to experience a live performance of Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-SaΓ«ns, performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Students heard a full symphony orchestra bring different animals, characters and moods to life through music, accompanied by engaging visuals and student artwork. 🦁🐒🦒🎢

The excursion was a wonderful opportunity to connect classroom Music learning with a live performance β€” listening for different instruments and exploring musical elements such as tempo, dynamics, pitch and tone colour.

What a special way to experience the magic of music beyond the classroom! πŸ’›

On Thursday, our students brought some of their favourite stories and characters to life for our Book Week Costume Parade β€” and the costumes were incredible! From clever homemade creations to much-loved book characters, there was so much imagination and creativity on display. πŸ“–πŸŒŸ

We selected a best costume from each class, and our teachers and staff certainly joined in the fun too, with some amazing costumes of their own!

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to watch, cheer and support our students. πŸ’›

On Monday, our students enjoyed a special Book Week performance by Meerkat Productions! 🎭✨

Junior and Senior students watched engaging adaptations of 2026 CBCA-shortlisted books, bringing stories they had been exploring in the classroom to life on stage.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate Book Week and experience storytelling in a completely different way! πŸ’œπŸ“–

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Senior School House Athletics Day! πŸ…

On Wednesday, our Year 3–6 students came together for our 2026 House Athletics Day, representing their Houses with enthusiasm, determination and plenty of team spirit! πŸ’šπŸ’›β€οΈπŸ’™

Students competed across a range of track and field events, earning points for their Houses and encouraging one another along the way. While the wet weather meant we couldn’t complete every scheduled event, it certainly didn’t dampen the energy and excitement of the day! 🌦️

We were especially proud to see our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience on display throughout the carnival, not only in competition, but in the way students supported each other, embraced challenges and kept going.

A huge thank you to our staff and wonderful parent helpers for their flexibility and support throughout the day. πŸ’œ

Well done to all our athletes!

🐐🌿 Prep Excursion to Chesterfield Farm!

On Monday, our Prep students visited Chesterfield Farm as part of their Inquiry learning in Biological Sciences.
Throughout the day, students explored the needs of living things, met a variety of farm animals and learned more about how animals grow, change and are cared for. πŸ‘πŸ“

Yesterday, a team of our students proudly represented Auburn Primary School at the Mathematics Association of Victoria (MAV) Maths Games Day.

The event brought together high-ability students from schools across Victoria for a day of fun, challenging and collaborative mathematical games and problem-solving activities. Working in teams, our students applied their mathematical thinking, explored creative strategies and embraced every challenge with enthusiasm.

Maths Games Day is a wonderful opportunity for students to strengthen their problem-solving skills, work alongside like-minded peers and discover just how exciting mathematics can be. πŸ’‘

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Auburn with teamwork, perseverance and a love of learning. πŸ’›

Yesterday, our Year 5/6 students visited Melbourne Zoo for their Biology excursion, taking their science learning beyond the classroom.

As part of the Adaptations and Features program, students explored how animals’ physical and behavioural adaptations help them survive in their environments. They observed a range of animals and investigated the connections between their features, behaviours and habitats. πŸŒΏπŸ”

A fantastic day of curiosity, discovery and real-world science learning! πŸ’›
