DOLLAR FOR DUSTY – WHAT A SPECIAL MORNING AT BCS!

This morning we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Dusty to Boorowa Central School as he continues his incredible Dollar for Dusty journey from Warren to Parliament House in Canberra!

At just 12 years old, Dusty is taking on this huge walk to raise funds and awareness for Little Wings and its Medical Wings program, helping bring paediatricians to regional communities so country kids can access the specialist care they need closer to home.

Dusty began his visit at our Infants and Primary Morning Muster, where students had the chance to meet him, hear about his adventure and fire off some fun questions!

Our School Captains, Mylee and Belle, then presented Dusty with a $200 donation from our SRC, along with a family-sized packet of Red Frogs to provide a little extra energy for today’s 26 kilometres!

Sammi Jensen and our wonderful P&C also made sure Dusty wouldn’t go hungry, presenting him with a care package of Sammi’s famous home-baked cookies, along with an amazing $300 donation already raised through cookie sales this week, with still two days of sales to go!

To finish the morning, our Secondary students joined the celebrations and students and staff from K–12 lined the school grounds to form a huge guard of honour, proudly holding the posters they had created in support of Dusty. With plenty of cheering and encouragement, Dusty ran/walked his way through the guard of honour and out of BCS to continue the next leg of his journey towards Canberra. 💙👏

We are incredibly proud to have played a small part in such a big mission and to show Dusty that country communities get behind country kids!

If you would like to support Dusty’s mission, donations can be made directly to the Dollar for Dusty Walk, with funds supporting Little Wings and its work to improve access to paediatric care for regional children. Or buy a cookie at the canteen with $1 from each sale going to this mission.

Good luck for the rest of the journey, Dusty, BCS is cheering you all the way to Canberra!

INSPIRING EXCELLENCE – WHAT A NIGHT!

What an incredible evening celebrating the talents, learning, creativity and achievements of our students at our Inspiring Excellence Showcase!

Our new Showcase format gave families and community members the opportunity to wander, explore, interact and experience learning from across our school, from Preschool and Kindergarten right through to our senior students.

Throughout the evening, our hall and surrounding spaces came alive with student performances with Kindy and stage 2, Rostrum speeches, robotics, interactive displays, arcade games, Business proposals, Greek mythology, Choose Your Own Adventure stories, science and mathematics, marbling, sewing and lino cutting demonstrations, Agricultural experiences with cattle and sheep, CAFS and Child Studies, PE challenges and so much more.

On stage, our students entertained us with The Postman, skipping, verse speaking and rock band, while our Art Gallery showcased an incredible collection of student work and invited visitors to have their say in our People’s Choice Art Awards. These will be announced at the coming weeks assemblies.

Our Food Tech and Hospitality students kept everyone refreshed with mocktails and Japanese canapés, and our wonderful P&C kept the crowd well fed throughout the evening.

Most importantly, the night reminded us that excellence looks different for every student. It can be found in performing on a stage, creating an artwork, solving a problem, sharing an idea, mastering a new skill, having the courage to try something new or discovering something that inspires you to keep striving.

A huge thank you to our students for so proudly sharing their learning, to our staff for the enormous amount of preparation behind the scenes, to our P&C for their continued support, and to every family and community member who came along, participated and helped create such a wonderful atmosphere.

We couldn't have asked for a better response to our first Inspiring Excellence Showcase.

R U OK?

Today is a reminder that a simple question can make a meaningful difference:
R U OK?
Wellbeing isn’t always about having everything together. Sometimes it’s about having someone who notices, listens without judgement, and gives you space to be honest about how you’re really feeling.

Today, take a moment to check in with the people around you, your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, or someone who might be doing it tough.
Ask. Listen. Encourage. Follow up. 💛
And remember, you don’t need to have the perfect words or all the answers. Sometimes simply being there is enough to let someone know they’re not alone.

If you or someone you care about needs extra support, there are services available across Australia.
For children & young people
