AT THE HEART OF EDUCATION ARE TWO QUESTIONS:
What kind of people do we want to be?
What kind of world do we want to live in?
Our answers to these questions help us answer a third:
What is the purpose of education, and how do we go about achieving it?
— Ann Pelo & Margie Carter, From Teaching to Thinking
As a team, we have returned to these questions again and again, anchoring ourselves as we reflect on the heart of our work and the values we’re here to live by.
The images above capture our team unpacking what matters most, and naming the specific ways our values show up; in our relationships, our rituals, our language, and the environments we create for children and families.
This season of reflection as a community has paved the way for a refreshed version of our philosophy - which we are calling our pillars.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll share our pillars with you, and what they look like in everyday practice.
We would love to know what you believe the purpose of education is… and what kind of world you hope it helps shape? 🤍
