🌿 Rest time for the Starfish children🌿

At Tillys Greta we are incredibly lucky to have a beautiful, spacious grassed area that our children call the ā€œback yardā€. 🌳
Our toddler room have been making the most of this wonderful outdoor space, enjoying both lunch and restful moments surrounded by fresh air and nature.
For the children who don’t sleep, they are provided with an activity so they can still enjoy some quiet downtime while their friends rest. 🌱✨

The Whale Room at Tillys Greta is undertaking the SAFE Series from the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian, a protective-behaviours program designed to support children to develop age-appropriate personal-safety skills.

We have explored our first book, Sam the Safe Explorer. Through Sam the Safe Explorer, the Whale children are learning about personal safety, listening to their feelings, understanding body boundaries, speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and knowing they can talk to trusted adults when they need help.

Following the story, we came together as a room to have a meaningful discussion about what we had learned. We listened to our friends’ voices and shared our thoughts, ideas and what we could recall from the book.

A moment for our OOSH space at Tillys Greta ✨

Our OOSH room is thoughtfully designed to foster children’s creativity, curiosity, fun and leisure. Children are often seen creating their own masterpieces using a variety of mediums, with their voices and ideas reflected throughout every aspect of the room and program. šŸŽØ

One example of this is the way the children have contributed to the creation of the gym space, including developing their own rules for using it. šŸ‹ļøā€ā™€ļø

This space provides opportunities for joy, relaxation and play, while reflecting the children’s sense of ownership and belonging. 🌿

Discover Art at Tillys Abermain!

At Tillys Abermain, we believe art is about more than creating something beautiful, it’s about giving children the opportunity to explore, express themselves and share their ideas.

During Book Week, one of our friends arrived dressed as the inspiring artist Frida Kahlo, sparking a wonderful opportunity for the children to revisit our earlier learning about Frida and her famous self-portraits.

The children explored how Frida used art to express her identity and experiences before creating their very own self-portraits. It was wonderful to see their personalities shine through each unique artwork!

Our art journey at Tillys Abermain is filled with opportunities to explore, revisit, experiment and create, allowing children to develop their own artistic voices along the way.

Exploring photography with our Whale children at Tillys Greta! 🐳

Over the past two months, the Whale children have been exploring all things photography. What began with using our iPad to capture moments from our day soon developed into photographing our environment, discovering different textures and perspectives, and eventually experimenting with digital cameras. As our interest in photography grew, we created our very own photo booth in our home corner, with dress-ups and props designed and created by the children. šŸ‘—

Our most recent project has brought together two of our interests; photography and weaving. Revisiting our love of weaving from earlier in the year, the children have been using our large wire frame to weave and display some of the photographs they have captured throughout our project. It has been wonderful to watch the Whale children’s ideas grow and evolve, and to see their creativity and curiosity through every part of their learning. 🧵
