SSV Basketball - HDSSA

Today our Grade 3–6 students travelled to the Maffra Basketball Association to compete against other schools in the Heyfield and District Schools Sports Association basketball competition. It was fantastic to see so many students get involved, with some of our students playing basketball for the very first time. The sportsmanship, teamwork and effort displayed across the day made us incredibly proud.

Our Grade 5/6 boys team had a terrific day, winning all three of their pool matches to earn a place in the Grand Final against St. Mary’s. The game was a hard-fought contest that went right down to the wire, with our boys showing great determination, teamwork and resilience, the boys went down by 2pts.

A big thank you to Ms Rathnow for coordinating and organising the event, and to Mrs Marshall, Tegan, Lachie, Tahlie and Miles for their efforts umpiring across the day. Our coaches Alex, Boof and Leanne Gallatly did an amazg job.

Well done to all of our students for the way you represented our school – we are very proud of you all!

Maffra Mardi Gras

The BCS community came together over the weekend as they particpated in the Maffra Mardi Gras Parade, and what an incredible effort it was!

After a mammoth amount of time and effort from our amazing Mardi Gras Float Committee, we hit the road led by a Bedgood’s truck, proudly showcasing our Australian-themed float.

The iconic Craig’s Hut took pride of place at the front, complete with pioneering family and camp fire. Our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students dressed as a variety of Australian animals, and nestled around a gum tree and Koala nestled on top.

Adding to the outback charm was the iconic outback toilet complete with redback spider. Our Grade 3 to 6 students followed dressed as a parade of swagmen, bushrangers, showcasing classic Aussie sayings that brought plenty of smiles and laughter from the crowd.

A huge thank you to our parents and families who once again went above and beyond putting together such fantastic costumes for their children. Your creativity and effort helped bring the whole scene to life.

Our float took home Best Overall Float and Best School Float, proudly receiving the Liz Sheppard Trophy and the Jacob Malmo Trophy. What an incredible achievement for our school community!

Thank you to the Rotary Club for their wonderful organisation of the event and to the Maffra Community Bank for their generous sponsorship.

We are also grateful to Ben for driving and Bedggood’s for the use of their truck, trailer and yard while dressing the float.

And finally, a very special thank you to Thayer, Elspeth and Kylie. Our school community is incredibly grateful for the countless hours of work you put in to create such an awesome float!
