Two highlights for me at this yrs symposium…
One was this beautiful quilt.
Sisters Deb and Sheryl were the makers and I chose it as my judge’s choice in the show.
I loved everything about it - the kimono fabrics, the NYB blocks, the flying geese and the arrangement in strips was perfect. I was going to make this quilt when I got home from nz.
When they came up to accept their award at the opening ceremony they gifted me the quilt!
Can you imagine my surprise and delight. I was blown away.
Second highlight was meeting this gorgeous woman Hilde Hoogwaerts-Cayman.
I’ve admired Hilde’s work from afar and to meet and spend time with her was amazing!
I even managed to get a copy of her Quiltmania out-of-print book full of beautiful African fabric quilts. Lucky me!
2028 Symposium is in Lower Hutt (Wellington) - you should all go! They do it so well across the ditch.

Fabulous two days with Waimea Quilters in Nelson.
Lots of blocks then on to blocks.
Such a variety of fabrics to suit the maker’s personality 😂
Off home tomorrow after two great weeks. NZ I’ll be back!

Last Quilt Symposium 2026 class yesterday was a riot of colour making my .
And at lunchtime Irene Blanck gave a great lecture on kawandis.
I and Hilde Hoogwaerts-Cayman got up close and personal with these beautiful pieces - thanks so much Irene.
I’m in Nelson now for two days r&r then two days of workshops then home.

Gala dinner dress up pics then Hilde Hoogwaerts and her beautiful work. I might have even scored her book!
Last pic is my Judges Choice quilt from the Quilt Symposium 2026 quilt show which the makers Debra DeLorenzo and have gifted to me.
Such a surprise but so delighted with their generosity! It is beautiful 🙏

Symposium 2026 in Christchurch.
What an event! 700+ students over 5 days. NZ, Aussie and o/s tutors including Cindy | artist, teacher, author , David Owen Hastings and Hilde Hoogwaerts.
My day 1 was nyb blocks with great results.
Now for 3 days of .
So good to catch up with past students and tutors I only see every symposium.
Come on over to NZ if you ever get the chance- it’s a fabulous country!

A fabulous weekend with Snake Gully Quilters tackling some of their UFOs.
