During Public Education Week, we hosted some different recess and lunch activities across the week to give interested students the opportunity to get creative! Many contributed to our collaborative murals 🖍, some of us enjoyed sitting in the sun ☀️ sketching ✏️ in our staff and students portrait challenge, and some of us even tried folding origami💠 for the first time! Many thanks to our staff and students who got involved, and especially to Ms O'Shea and Ms Bourtsouklis for facilitating the fabulous murals, "Your Future Self" and "I Hope To..."

🌸 Blakehurst High School has just finished hosting a group of students and teachers from Japan 🇯🇵 in a special exchange program. It was an incredible experience for all involved. A huge thanks to our Languages Faculty for their coordination of this wonderful initiative. You can read Ms Mangravati's reflections below ⬇️

Our recent Japanese exchange program was a truly unforgettable experience, filled with laughter, learning and lifelong memories. From the moment our Japanese students arrived, they were welcomed with open arms by their host families, buddies and the Blakehurst High School community. It was heartwarming to watch friendships blossom as students shared their cultures, learnt from one another and enjoyed everyday experiences together.
The English language lessons provided a supportive and enjoyable environment where students grew in confidence and developed their English language skills.
Perhaps the greatest success of the program was the genuine friendships that were formed. Language and cultural differences quickly disappeared as students discovered how much they had in common. By the end of the visit, the Japanese students felt like part of our school family.
The farewell was an emotional reminder of the impact the program had on everyone involved. There were smiles, hugs and many tears as students, host families and staff said goodbye. While it was difficult to see our visitors leave, the friendships made and memories shared will remain long after the suitcases have been unpacked.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our incredible host families, student buddies and staff, whose kindness, generosity and dedication made this exchange such a meaningful and successful experience. We look forward to welcoming our Japanese friends back in the future and continuing the special connections that have been created.

🍕 Social Justice Pizza Practical 🍕
Year 11 Food Technology students recently explored the concept of social justice through an engaging pizza-making practical.
Students selected one slip from each of four bowls—protein, toppings, sides and sauces. Each slip determined the ingredients they received; however, the ingredients were deliberately distributed unequally. Some students received a wide variety of ingredients, while others had very limited choices.
This practical activity encouraged students to consider how access to food, resources and opportunities is not always equal. Students reflected on the relationship between their experience in the kitchen and broader social justice issues, including food insecurity, inequality and the fair distribution of resources.
A meaningful and memorable way to combine practical food preparation skills with important real-world learning.

The Blakehurst High School Junior and Senior Prefects proudly hosted a “60 for 60” fundraiser to celebrate 60 incredible years of Calvary Health Care Kogarah’s commitment to our community! We embraced the spirit of the 1960s with a themed m***i day and energised everyone with Minute To Win It games featuring a variety of fun physical challenges. BHS raised $351 to help support patient care at Calvary.
